Parents sometimes choose to build furniture themselves instead of hiring a professional. Unfortunately, that decision led to a frightening moment for one Florida family.

A mother had built a bunk bed for her children and believed it was secure. However, security camera footage from inside the kids’ bedroom showed the top bunk suddenly collapsing. The frame fell directly onto her son, who was sleeping on the bottom bunk at the time.

The unexpected incident quickly turned what seemed like a normal night into a terrifying experience for the family.

Nobody was hurt! But yeah don’t hire me to build a bed

The situation became even more alarming when viewers noticed that the metal support bars fell first, followed by the mattress. The boy’s sister, who had been sleeping on the top bunk, immediately climbed down to check on him. When she couldn’t lift the mattress off him herself, she ran to get help.

The children’s grandmother quickly rushed into the room and remained calm as she removed the mattress and checked on the boy. Thankfully, he was okay. In the caption of the video, the mom reassured viewers, writing, “Nobody was hurt! But yeah don’t hire me to build a bed.”

While the family was relieved, many viewers were shaken by how serious the situation could have been. Some left harsh comments, pointing out how dangerous the collapse looked. In response, the Florida mom posted an update clarifying that her children were safe and that she would never have shared the video if anyone had been injured.

She also addressed possible reasons for the collapse, explaining that she may have made a mistake during assembly, that the bed could have been cheaply manufactured, or that purchasing it from Amazon might have played a role. She emphasized that she would never intentionally put her children in danger, responding to speculation from some who suggested she knew the bed would fall.

Moving forward, she said the top bunk would no longer be used and that she plans to find a safer sleeping arrangement for her kids.

People Reacting to the Terrifying Moment in Florida

Almost everyone who watched the video said they were terrified for the Florida family. The way the metal bars fell first made many realize how much worse the situation could have been.

“That could have been so bad omg,” one person wrote.

Others shared that bunk beds have always made them nervous. “Every bottom bunk sibling’s worst fear unlocked,” someone commented.

Another person wrote, “What in the Final Destination!”

Some viewers even advised the mom to avoid future DIY projects. One person told her, “Yeah sista don’t put none else together..” while another added, “Don’t you ever build another bunk bed in your life!!!”

Given how close the situation came to ending badly, many agreed it was probably safer to rethink any future bunk bed plans.

Some viewers focused on how well the young girl handled the frightening situation, even though she was clearly scared. “The way she was immediately worried about her brother glad they’re ok!!” one person wrote.

Others tried to lighten the mood with humor. “Could you build my mother-in-law’s bed?” someone joked.

At the same time, many were careful not to blame the mom. One commenter wrote, “That’s a scary accident, sometimes they just break. Our top bunk that’s made of wood snapped not the whole thing but one piece. Things happen, but what a sweet loving daughter you have and thank God your sweet boy is safe and protected.”

In the end, most people were simply relieved that no one was seriously hurt.
