Establishments all over America have been responding differently to ICE’s attacks. Many places are trying their best to protect not just their employees but also their customers. Businesses’ attempts to do this are encouraged by the fact that many people are currently opposed to ICE. A major example of that is the general strike scheduled for January 30. Now, a coffee shop in Dallas, Texas has been receiving praise all thanks to an anti-ICE sign they put on their shop. Someone took a picture of the sign banning ICE from entering the shop, which is called Full City Rooster. The same person encouraged others to go there just because of their stance on ICE. “This place’s coffee took me from enthusiast to connoisseur, and their social stances are always on point. Give ‘em a visit if you’ve never been,” they wrote.

The sign used by the Texas coffee shop had two stop signs in its design. “NO ICE ACCESS IN THIS BUSINESS,” they wrote in large font. They made it clear that ICE agents weren’t welcome there, as per the law. After stating that the shop is a private business, they added that immigration agents should have a judicial warrant to enter. The shop also didn’t recognize ICE’s administrative warrant. Even if the agents had one, they are still not allowed to enter the business’s private areas. The shop then pointed out that both employees and customers have “the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney.” At the end of the sign, they made it clear that if an agent tried to enter without a valid warrant, they would be asked to leave.

Many internet users who saw the coffee shop’s anti-ICE sign praised it. Despite this praise, some couldn’t help but point out a written part that hinted that the shop used AI to write its statement. The very end of the sign mentioned the laws this policy was in compliance with. The problem was that they cited two California laws, even though the shop is in Texas. It’s the thought that matters.

People Reacting to the Texas Coffee Shop’s Anti-ICE Sign

Comments under the post showing the anti-ICE sign used by the Texas coffee shop were divided. Some applauded them while others tried to find something wrong with it. Those who loved the sign included one person who said, “Too bad ICE agents can’t read.” This made another person reply, “Or comply with U.S. constitution.” Someone else then replied but this time, they mocked the shop. “It appears the restaurant owners/managers can’t either. Why does this cite California law?” they said. This made another internet user come to the shop’s defence and add, “Because those were probably created by California businesses. Most of what the paper says applies to Texas anyways so it doesnt really matter.”

Additional comments mocked the Texas business for citing California law. This is why one person wrote, “When you copy and paste directly from Chat GPT and hope for the best.” Another person couldn’t care less about the citation part as they said, “It could quote Bird Law and I wouldn’t care. The important thing is that they chose to be on the right side of history.” One Redditor focused more on the shop’s owner as they wrote, “Their owner is amazing. Wonderful member and leader for all in his community. I remember back in the day there used to be free Narcan available here by the front door. He also takes great care of his employees while making a great product and running a solid business. Literally can’t say enough good things about this place and the people that work here,” they commented.
