Parents often leave their children at daycare believing they are safe under the supervision of teachers. A couple in Texas was shocked to discover that their daughter might not have been safe while attending daycare. The child had been enrolled at a Montessori school, and one day, while watching the facility’s live feed, the parents saw something that led them to immediately pull their daughter out of the daycare.
Before the incident on the live feed, their daughter had already been telling them that her teacher was mistreating her. At one point, she told them that the teacher pushed her. On another occasion, she said the same teacher had spoken to her aggressively. The parents began to suspect something was wrong, and their concerns grew as they watched the live feed from the daycare.
In the live feed, their 3-year-old daughter was lying on her cot while a little boy was on a nearby cot. The two children appeared to be talking to each other. At that moment, the teacher walked over and pulled the boy’s cot from underneath him, causing him to fall to the ground. She then moved his cot to another spot. According to the parents, the teacher then approached their daughter, who was looking up at her. The teacher grabbed the girl’s head and pushed it down into the cot. She then covered the child’s entire body with a blanket and pressed her head through the blanket. The parents said the moment left them shocked and upset.
“I’m literally distraught about this,” the mother said. After seeing the footage, the parents decided their daughter would not return to the daycare. The mother also said they were considering pressing charges. For now, they plan to keep their daughter at home while they decide whether she will return to school later. “It’s just crazy cause you send your kids to school thinking that someone is looking out for them,” the mother added.
The Texas parents later shared an update about how they handled the situation with the school. After speaking with others, they were able to contact the boy’s parents and inform them about what the teacher allegedly did to their son. The group of parents later agreed to meet at the school and discuss the situation with the director. However, when they asked to review the footage, the school initially told them they were not allowed to view it. Unfortunately, the parents also did not have the chance to record the incident when they first saw it on the live feed.
The school director later told the parents that she would review the footage and contact them afterward. However, the two sets of parents refused to leave until they could see the footage themselves. After reviewing the video, the school confirmed the parents’ account and filed a formal report. The teacher has since been placed on a 90-day suspension. Despite the incident, the school reportedly described the teacher as excellent and said that the children usually liked her.
The parents also said that when they viewed the footage at the school, a different camera angle showed the moment with the boy as less aggressive than it had initially appeared. Even so, they still found the situation concerning. The director agreed that the teacher should not have put the blanket over the girl. The couple also noted that the footage showed the rest of the class still awake at the time, which made them question why the teacher singled out their daughter and the boy. According to them, the two children were not the only ones awake or talking. For now, the girl’s parents say they are reviewing other schools while deciding whether to enroll her elsewhere or continue teaching her at home.
People Reacting to the Texas Parents Removing Their Daughter from Daycare
A lot of people were outraged after they learned what happened to the Texas parents’ girl. Many believed that they should have been angrier about the situation. “Yall not in jail?” one person asked. Another person said, “LIISSTEN‼ The way I would have been in there flipping cots, tables, and teachers! They are waaayyyy too calm! Lol.” Someone else wrote, “It’s the calm ‘high road’ approach we’re gawking at, too many of us would need bail if a teacher laid hands like that, and the school would need a lawyer – that ‘teacher’ sounds well suited for working in prison education, from the inside.”
Several people advised the parents to report the teacher. “File a report because that teacher too comfortable doing that. Imagine what you all didn’t see,” one person wrote. Another person said, “The report doesn’t need to be made with the school. The school should be licensed by the state. That’s who the report should be made to. CPS and licensing should be reported to.” Someone else wrote, “They get very bold EVEN with the cameras. I had to advocate for my daughter and they tried to gaslight me when I asked to replay the recording. Press charges!” It is definitely a frustrating situation for any parent. Hopefully, the teacher will never do this to anyone else.
