Texas Parents’ TikTok Cookie Challenge Goes Wrong: ‘We Failed as Parents’

I would have done the same thing.

TikTok trends never stop happening; sometimes, they can be extreme. A new trend, however, is quite cute and heartwarming. The cookie challenge, the name of the latest trend, started to spread all over TikTok as parents tried it with their kids. While the cookie challenge worked with some parents, it didn’t go as planned with two Texas parents. Instead of creating a heartwarming video, the Texas parents were left with a funny one.

This cookie challenge involves parents giving their kids two cookies and one parent one cookie, while the other parent gets nothing. The cookies are hidden under a napkin or a plate at first, so there is a surprise element. This challenge aims to see if kids will share their cookies with their parents or not. At least, this is the goal the Texas parents had.

The cookie challenge worked with a lot of parents and their kids. One kid immediately shared his two cookies once he saw that his mom had none. He even hid her cookie so that she could have the same experience. Another kid started crying when he saw that his mom had no cookies. He ended up sharing as soon as he started crying. This made his parents describe him as “a true empath”

Texas Parents Fail Cookie Challenge

While the challenge went well for most families, it went wrong for the Texas parents. They gave their kid two cookies, the mom one cookie, and the dad didn’t get anything. For a moment, you think that he is going to share as he reaches out to take one of the cookies. What he ends up doing, though, is taking a bite of it. This left his parents with a failed attempt to stifle their laughter.

The mom then asks if they should give one to Daddy, takes a cookie, and places it on Dad’s plate, only for their kid to return it. He declares, “It’s mine,” as he keeps eating away, leaving his parents in a fit of laughter. The video ends with the dad saying “We lost. We failed as parents.”

With over 80 million views and 9 million likes, people had A LOT to say about the video. One user wrote “Empathy but no sympathy.” Another wrote, “Bro said, ‘Stay in your struggle.’” One user tried to find the positive side of the whole situation, which he described as “healthy.” He told the Texas parents “he doesn’t feel obligated to solve anyone’s issues.” So while the Texas parents might have been a little disappointed, the internet couldn’t stop talking about the video.

The video became so popular that other TikTok creators started imitating it and making their own versions. Now, in all honesty, sharing is cool and everything, but who will willingly give up two cookies? Sometimes, sharing is not caring. What matters is that the Texas parents found the funny side in the whole situation.
