It is true that accidents can happen in the kitchen, where unexpected materials can sometimes end up in food even under strict quality control. There could be packaging errors or even cross-contamination, among other things. However, it still falls on the establishment to ensure that customers don’t have to suffer for their mistakes. Just recently, a woman from Humble, Texas, who ordered mashed potatoes from Chili’s, claims she found a piece of wood in her food.
In a video she uploaded on TikTok, the woman broke what appeared to be a brown material into small fragments, insisting that it was not meat or seasoning but actual wood shavings. According to her, she had ordered a full meal through Uber Eats, spending a total of $63.29, only to make the shocking discovery while eating. “This is literally wood. Hardwood that was in my mashed potatoes from Chili’s,” she said. “This is not even old meat. This is wood, and I almost choked on it.” The woman even rinsed the pieces under running water to prove her point, saying, “Bro, this is literally wood chippings. Like… oh my God, I could have died.”
The woman claimed that she attempted to report the issue to both Chili’s and Uber Eats, but neither the restaurant nor the delivery app provided an immediate solution or refund. “All Uber Eats says is ‘someone will get back to you in 24 hours’ like that fixes anything,” she wrote in the caption.
Viewers React to the Texas Woman’s Food Incident
For the most part, in the comments, netizens were shocked and disgusted with what they saw. “This is why I never eat out anymore 💔 I swear restaurants are trying to poison us atp,” one person commented. Another was so surprised by the appearance of the fragments that they mistook them for insects. “Girl, I thought this was crickets,” they wrote.
Some were also concerned about the woman’s well-being. Someone said, “Oh god. Sorry that happened,” while a different viewer added, “Oh my gosh, ew… I hope you’re okay though.” A third also urged her to “call the health department.”
