A woman in Texas, right after getting her food at a McDonald’s drive-thru, thought that it was a great idea to update her Tesla’s software. As a result, she got stuck, potentially ruining other customers’ dinner and putting their patience to the ultimate test.
Amanda de la Rosa shared the unfortunate and ill-timed moment on TikTok. She has shared lifestyle content, news clips, dancing, and even trading cards in the past. This time around, her Tesla update went viral, making it her biggest video yet. In a few days, it garnered five million views, 471,500 likes, and more than 7,000 comments.
The Texas woman could be seen sitting behind the wheel of her Tesla. Her video shows a couple of soft drinks, a McDonald’s burger, fries, and some sauces in the vehicle’s center console. The Tesla’s screen showed the car manufacturer’s logo, and Amanda sounded defeated.
“Don’t ever update your Tesla when you’re in the freaking drive-thru at McDonald’s,” she said. “Don’t ever update… I repeat, do not update your car, your Tesla, whenever you’re in the drive-thru.”
An Hour-Long Wait
Amanda was stuck. When Teslas install software updates, they completely disable the car’s driving functions. This update process, to the dismay of other McDonald’s customers potentially sitting behind Amanda, can take up to an hour.
This wasn’t Amanda’s only Tesla misfortune. In another video, she shared how her Tesla’s summoning function didn’t work properly. Then, in a third clip, a follow-up to her drive-thru one, the Texas woman showed the update: her Tesla avatar now had a ghost costume.
“It’s pretty awesome,” Amanda said. “Was it worth it? Probably not.”
Reactions
The first clip sparked many responses, mainly from viewers left aghast by her decision to update. One said, “I would’ve called a tow if I worked there.” Another one added, “It tells you MULTIPLE times it gives you 2 minutes to cancel and you still went for it…“
Others were more direct in their criticism. One wrote, “Better yet, don’t ever buy a Tesla.” Another one added, “Your first mistake was buying a Tesla.”
Most likely, Amanda will think twice before updating her Tesla at nonconventional places.
