The Ascent how to fast travel
This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information.

The neon lights and futuristic settings in The Ascent are wondrous to gaze upon. From exotic ads to the ill-intended areas of sex and depravity, you’ll come across a wide variety of cyberpunk themes along your journeys. But as you progress through the story, you’ll find yourself returning to previously visited areas. And why walk there? Luckily, the developers implemented a fast travel system in The Ascent to make traveling more convenient. Surely, it beats walking from point A to point B. But how do you initiate fast travel routes? Well, here’s all you need to know on how to fast travel on Veles.

How to Fast Travel in The Ascent

The Ascent Metro train stop for fast travel

There are two main ways to fast travel: through the Metro system, or by hailing a flying cab. Taking the Metro requires no payment, so you can just hop onto the station and then select your previously discovered location. Look for the red M on your map. Missing the train’s stop will result in it departing, but another will arrive in under a minute. The cab is more precise in dropping you off at your objective, but it will cost you 1,000 uCreds. Oddly enough, each ride seems to cost merely 1,000 uCreds. So, if you have enough money in your pocket, you can essentially ride to any location where you’ve previously visited. This will save a lot of time for you and any friends in your session. Keep in mind, though, that fast travel will only be accessible once you progress through the “Trading Places” mission.

The only downside to using fast travel is that you need to visit the locations before you have access to quickly returning to them. Obviously, this makes sense since The Ascent features RPG elements, but the Metro is only convenient if you’ve been to a spot before. It’s highly recommended to play through some main missions that’ll naturally unlock the areas for you. The side missions are a different work of labor since they require higher levels for completion – for most of them, at least, depending on your progression. But going through the main missions will unlock the previously visited arcologies that won’t require a lot of backtracking.

The Veles Cost of Fast Travel

No matter how far you wish to go, the trip will cost 1,000 uCreds if you hail for a cab. As mentioned beforehand, it’s a lot more direct than the Metro stops. With the amount of loot you scoop up from fallen foes and opened chests, you’re probably loaded with duplicates. Sell them at the merchants at Cluster 13. They’re literally collecting dust in your inventory, and that is easy money for you if you seek to fast travel a lot on Veles.

Be mindful of where you go, though, through a cab or the Metro. The foes will respawn, but the chests will remain dormant if you’ve already opened them. You can always outrun them, with some dodging and juking, and they’ll potentially retreat unless you blow them to smithereens. But when you fast travel in The Ascent, you’ll appreciate all the time you have saved for yourself. While Veles is gorgeous to look at, walking from one objective to another can become a dull activity to dedicate to.

Having enough uCreds won’t hurt you, so you might want to spend them if you’re looking to finish up a side quest with a cab. It will definitely save you a lot of time if you’re not too fond of going back and forth.

The Ascent is available now for the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
