In the case of The Batman, the film has been delayed from its original June 2021 release. Now, it’ll release on October 1st, 2021. This could be an excellent move from Warner Bros. in the long run. In recent years, comic book movies have seen monumental success in October. Venom, which debuted in October 2018, had a stellar opening month and barreled its way towards a nearly billion-dollar run at the box office. Then we have 2019’s Joker, which also released in October. The gritty adaptation of the iconic Batman villain scored a box office intake of over $1 billion and multiple Oscar nominations.
What About The Flash and Shazam 2?
Moving onto The Flash, which has shockingly been moved up a month and will hit theaters on June 3rd, 2022. Despite the recent controversy surrounding Ezra Miller, it seems that Warner Bros. plans to keep the actor in the role moving forward.
Finally, we have Shazam 2. Unfortunately, Shazam 2 has been delayed until November 4th, 2022. With the first film being such a surprise hit for DC, hopefully, they’ll be able to nail the sequel. The Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman 84, Aquaman 2, and the spin-off Black Adam movie starring Dwayne Johnson are still slated to release as currently planned.
It’s a major shake-up for WB as they plan to retool their cinematic universe and get it back on track. The polarizing DCEU has gone a little off the rails since Justice League disappointed, both critically and financially.
