In true HoYoverse fashion, Honkai Star Rail has given us the chance to build the Trailblazer in different ways. If you didn’t know, the company’s latest games have the trend of allowing us to switch the elements and roles of the main character. While we don’t get to customize their appearance, we thankfully get to customize their playstyle. Plus, every major expansion brings with it a new element and role, making this a versatile character that can compete against those high up in several tier lists. But as always, to make the Trailblazer shine, it’s important to get the right build.
The Best Physical Build for the Trailblazer in Honkai Star Rail
(Updated on May 9, 2024 – Clarified information, added images, and added the new Harmony Trailblazer build)
We’ll start with the Trailblazer’s first element: Physical. When you start the game, you’ll get a space baseballer who wields the Physical element and hails from the Path of Destruction. This means the Trailblazer, at least in this state, is best used as a DPS character. While there are other great DPS in the game, this element benefits the main character a lot, as they can focus on single target damage or blast damage. If you’re lacking some destructive force in your team, this goofy Astral Express member can do wonders.
Light Cones
Since we’re going down the DPS path, you’ll need to focus on Light Cones from the Path of Destruction. Most of the Physical Trailblazer’s skills scale with their Attack, so we’ll be looking for Light Cones that increase that stat, such as the following:
- Something Irreplaceable (Best)
- Increases the wearer’s ATK by 20%. When the wearer defeats an enemy or is hit, HP is immediately restored to equal 6% of the wearer’s ATK. At the same time, the wearer’s DMG increases by 20% until the end of their next turn. This effect cannot stack and can only trigger once per turn.
- Nowhere to Run
- Increases the wearer’s ATK by 20%. Whenever the wearer defeats an enemy, they restore HP equal to 12% of their ATK.
- Under the Blue Sky
- Increases the wearer’s ATK by 16%. When the wearer defeats an enemy, the wearer’s CRIT Rate increases by 12% for three turns.
Relic Sets
Regarding Relic Sets, they are pretty easy to get for the Physical Trailblazer build in Honkai Star Rail. Besides, you’ll need four pieces of the same set, contrary to other characters who use two of each. Here are the ones we recommend:
- Champion of Streetwise Boxing (4 Pieces)
- 2-Piece Bonus: Increases Physical DMG by 10%.
- 4-Piece Bonus: After the wearer attacks or is hit, their ATK increases by 5% for the rest of the battle. This effect can stack up to 5 times.
- Planar Ornament: Celestial Differentiator (2 Pieces)
- 2-Piece Bonus: Increases the wearer’s CRIT DMG by 16%. When the wearer’s current CRIT DMG reaches 120% or higher after entering battle, their CRIT Rate increases by 60% until the end of their first attack.
Best Team Comp for the Physical Trailblazer
Given the DPS role of the Physical Trailblazer, it is important to get a good team comp to make this build shine in Honkai Star Rail. As usual, we’ll recommend a premium and a free-to-play one.
- Premium Team
- Tank: Fu Xuan
- DPS: Trailblazer (Physical)
- Support: Tingyun
- Healer: Huohuo
- Free-to-Play Team
- Tank: March 7th
- DPS: Trailblazer (Physical)
- Support: Tingyun
- Healer: Lynx/Natasha
The Best Fire Build for the Trailblazer in Honkai Star Rail
Contrary to the Physical element, when the Trailblazer wields Fire, they shift to the Path of Preservation and one of the game’s best tanks. Even if we have some other great ones, such as Gepard or the coveted Fu Xuan, the Fire Trailblazer still makes it to the top of the list due to their taunting capabilities, self-healing skills, and the ability to provide shields for the team. If you’d rather have someone who protects the team instead of doing damage, make note of the items in this build.
Light Cones
There are several Light Cones that the Trailblazer can use when wielding the Fire element, but there are three we think are the best for this tank build.
- Trend of the Universal Market (Best)
- Increases the wearer’s DEF by 16%. When the wearer is attacked, there is a 100% base chance of burning the enemy. For each turn, the wearer deals DoT equal to 40% of the wearer’s DEF for two turn(s).
- We Are Wildfire
- At the start of the battle, the DMG dealt to all allies decreases by 8% for five turns. At the same time, it immediately restores HP to all allies equal to 30% of the respective HP difference between the characters’ Max HP and current HP.
- Day One of My New Life
- Increases the wearer’s DEF by 16%. After entering battle, increases DMG RES of all allies by 8%. Effects of the same type cannot stack.
Relic Sets
When looking for Relic Sets for this Tank build, it is imperative to focus on the Defense stat. All of the Fire Trailblazer’s skills scale with it, meaning you have to prioritize Defense over everything else. Here are the Relics we recommend:
- Knight of Purity Palace (4 Pieces)
- 2- Piece Bonus: Increases DEF by 12%.
- 4-Piece Bonus: Increases the maximum DMG that can be absorbed by the shield created by the wearer by 20%.
- Planar Ornament: Belobog of the Architects (2 Pieces)
- 2-Piece Bonus: Increases the wearer’s DEF by 15%. When the wearer’s Effect Hit Rate is 50% or higher, the wearer gains an extra 15% DEF.
Best Team Comp for the Fire Trailblazer
Last but not least, let’s look at the best team comps for the Fire Trailblazer. And yes, we’ve included a Premium and a Free-to-Play comp so you can mix and match.
- Premium Team

The Best Harmony Trailblazer Build in Honkai Star Rail
Honkai Star Rail‘s version 2.2 debuted the Harmony Trailblazer, and with that, many options to build them became available. While Robin led the charts as a fantastic buffer, our gray-haired protagonist didn’t fall behind. Focused on Break Effect mechanics and the fantastic Superbreak Damage effect, having the Harmony Trailblazer on the frontlines is ideal, with the right build, of course.
Light Cones
Since the Harmony Trailblazer isn’t a 5-star character per se, there isn’t a feature Light Cone for this build. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other options. Given the big focus on Break Effect, you have great choices, and some of them are even 4-star Light Cones, meaning you don’t have to spend a lot of your currency for any of the banners.
Overall, there are two great Light Cones we recommend for this Harmony Trailblazer build. The 5-star one is Past Self in Mirror, which is Ruan Mei’s signature Light Cone. It increases Break Effect by 60%, and after the user casts their ultimate, all party members’ damage increases by 24%. Since the Harmony Trailblazer has great energy regeneration capabilities, this one is a must. However, the 4-star Light Cone, Memories of the Past, is great as well due to its innate Break Effect increase by 28% and the chance to regenerate 4 energy with each attack.
Light Cone Alternatives
If you don’t have any of the above, here are a few others that will work well enough with the Trailblazer following the Path of Harmony.
Light Cone | Effect | How To Obtain |
---|---|---|
But The Battle Isn’t Over | Increases the wearer’s Energy Regeneration Rate by 10% and regenerates 1 Skill Point when the wearer uses their Ultimate on an ally. This effect can be triggered after every 2 uses of the wearer’s Ultimate. When the wearer uses their Skill, the next ally taking action (except the wearer) deals 30% more DMG for 1 turn. | Any Banner |
Past and Future | When the wearer uses their Skill, the next ally taking action (except the wearer) deals 16% increased DMG for 1 turn. | Forgotten Hall Store |
Dance! Dance! Dance! | When the wearer uses their Ultimate, all allies’ actions are Advanced Forward by 16%. | Any Banner |
Best Relic Set
Regarding the Harmony Trailblazer’s relic set, there’s only one choice for this build. Since we want to increase their Break Effect and Attack, you’ll need the Watchmaker Master of Dream Machination sets. For the Planar Ornament, we recommend Talia: Kingdom of Banditry, which also increases Break Effect even further after reaching 145 speed or higher. When farming or synthesizing the relics, here are the stats we recommend:
- Body: HP and Defense
- Feet: Speed
- Planar Sphere: Defense
- Link Rope: Energy Regeneration Rate
As for stat priority, always go for Break Effect first, followed by Speed, and lastly, HP or Defense. This will allow the Trailblazer to act fast during a fight and stay alive with enough HP or Defense.
Team Comp
Last but not least, you also need a proper team comp for the Harmony Trailblazer. Since they focus on Break Effect, using characters that have similar gameplay will work perfectly, such as Xueyi. Here’s the composition we recommend:
- Tank/Healer: Fu Xuan (With signature Light Cone)
- DPS: Sushang or Xueyi (Both benefit from the Superbreak effect)
- Support: Silver Wolf (Due to how easy it is for her to break enemies, pairing her with the Harmony Trailblazer is great)
- Second Support: Harmony Trailblazer
Alternatively, you can swap Fu Xuan for any pure healer, such as Huohuo, who also provides energy regeneration. If you have Imbibitor Lunae and Aventurine, you can make a mono-Imaginary team, which is great, too, assuming you have Silver Wolf. And if you don’t have any other great support, throw Asta into the mix for increased speed and help others act faster.
The great thing about the Trailblazer is how versatile the character is. Whether you want to do damage or buff and shield others, you can switch from one build to the other on the fly. Besides, we know HoYoverse will release more elements for the main characters, so remember to visit this guide when that happens because we’ll update it as more elements and Paths launch. And if you want to look at the main character in action, we recommend watching this playlist with all the game’s cutscenes featuring the Trailblazer.
