One Reddit user posted a video of the Descendant Instructor to The First Descendant forum, concerned about the speed at which his dialogue text moved. For every two or three lines of dialogue that show up, players are given only about a second to read it. The Descendant Instructor isn’t a character with little to say, either.
The First Descendant’s release was plagued by several issues, including login errors and infinite screens. It’s still a fun enough looter shooter, and fans of games like Warframe will find plenty to enjoy. However, issues like the speed of dialogue have rubbed some the wrong way.
Can The Descendant Instructor Slow Down A Bit?
The Reddit user u/Yellowexz posted the video, which was immediately upvoted by players thinking the exact same thing. Some commentators asked why the character didn’t have a voice actor, while others suggested using AI to generate a voice. What I thought was the most concerning was the number of commentators saying that English isn’t their first language. As a result, they’ve missed out on important dialogue because they can’t keep up.
The Descendant Instructor is, in my opinion, one of the most important sources of information in the entire game and has some of the most useful dialogue. You’ll receive pointers and casual tutorials on how to do different things in-game, all with helpful information to pair it with. But the information is only good if you can read it at all. I’ll admit, I’ve come to learn how to read faster than I already do just to be able to grasp what he’s saying. Most of the time, however, I’ll skip the dialogue altogether. Maybe I wouldn’t if he had a voice actor.
The First Descendant is available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
