The upcoming Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent miniseries is bringing the Injustice Universe back to DC Comics. The six-issue series from writer Tom Taylor and artist Clayton Henry drops next month. It is an offshoot of Taylor’s current Superman: Son of Kal-El. The miniseries features the Kent patriarch interacting with the multiverse.
Tom Taylor and the Injustice Universe
Of course, Tom Taylor is no stranger to the Injustice Universe. The DC comics writer is responsible for DC’s Injustice and Injustice 2. So, who better to craft a series where Jon Kent finds himself in the world of Injustice: Gods Among Us?
Speaking to DC (per CBR), the writer shared his thoughts on the Injustice Universe and what revisiting that world means to him. Unfortunately for Taylor, that book is a “very troubled time” for him. As he explains, “I had so much fun on that book. Obviously, I was on it for years…but there is a lot about [it] that rubs me the wrong way”. That includes the idea that Superman, Wonder Woman, and the other DC heroes could ever become the people they are in that universe.
The Jon Kent Effect
Therefore, the upcoming Jon Kent miniseries allows Taylor to add the character as a “beacon of hope” in this horrible universe: “[Jon Kent] wants the best for the world, throwing him into that world where his father has become a dictator gives us so much to play with.”
Of course, in the Injustice Universe Superman is the way he is due to the loss of Lois Lane and his son. So, seeing an adult Jon Kent will surely impact the tyrannical hero. This is something Taylor teased when discussing the miniseries: “I don’t want to give away his reaction. I don’t want to give away exactly how that goes down. But, we need to let Injustice fans know we are going back.”
