Earlier this year, Naughty Dog announced that The Last of Us 2 would not be present at PAX East; this came as a surprise since Sony and Naughty Dog had advertised the game’s presence up until a week before the convention. In fact, while at PAX East, guests could see an advertisement for the game on the convention’s TV. In their explanation for why they pulled out of the event, Naughty Dog used the Corona Virus as an excuse; however, many suspected that the game was just not yet ready. About a month later, On April 2nd, Naughty Dog announced that The Last of Us 2 was delayed indefinitely. A new Last of US 2 leak may restart the game’s release date.
Originally, The Last of Us 2 was scheduled to be released on May 29th, 2020; however, with the game being suspended indefinitely, many expected that the game would release as a PlayStation 5 launch title. Today, new information including cutscenes, gameplay, and art has leaked for The Last of Us 2. At the moment, Naughty Dog has not commented on the leak but the leak has been authenticated. At the time, it is suspected that the leak occurred either a data breach or an unsatisfied party posting information about the game prior to the game’s release. Originally, the leak was posted on Reddit, but the original post has since been removed.
The Leaks
The five leaked videos give away some key moments in The Last of Us 2; however, we have left the following paragraph pretty vague to avoid key spoilers.
In the leaked videos, we are able to see Joel getting the living hell beaten out of him. When Ellie tries to intervene she is restrained and forced to look at Joel and another man bleeding on the ground. The second leaked cutscene has Ellie and Dina riding a horse talking about their enemies and trying to piece the pieces together. You can see the two riding a horse through a forest. The video is a bit pixelated but does give an idea of how the game will look and feel. We find out the horse’s name after Ellie gets off to search for supplies. We see Ellie pick up a playing card which will either be a collectible or stat booster. In the desk, Ellie finds a map of the local area.
The third video shows Ellie and Joel walking through a gym after they have dealt with a bloater. The two discuss a couple who ran away after finding a corpse. Ellie questions Joel about why she was pulled out of the Firefly hospital. In the fourth, Dina and Ellie are having an argument. The Cutscene does contain heavy spoilers for the game regarding two characters’ fates; the second half appears to be a flashback. The fifth trailer shows Jesse walking in on Dina and Ellie in an intimate situation.
What to Expect
Because of this Last of Us 2 leak, Sony and Naughty Dog may release the game sooner than expected to keep fans interested.
