The Matrix 4 is planning to start filming again in July post-pandemic lockdown
This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information.

It’s been reported that the cast members of The Matrix 4 have all signed an eight-week contract extension.

The production on The Matrix 4 began in February of this year, but it was shut down in mid-March as countries began putting down social distancing measures. However, now many countries like New Zealand and the U.K. are looking to get movie/TV productions up and running again.

According to Variety, Warner Bros, plans on picking this one back up over the summer. It’s been reported that the cast’s contract extensions will run through at least July 6, keeping them on hold until production can begin again. With filming having already been wrapped up in San Francisco prior to the lockdown, the cast and crew will move to Europe.

The Matrix 4
The Matrix is considered one of the most influential sci-fi films of all time and its sequels have also been successful.

Lana Wachowski – who co-directed the original trilogy with sister Lily – is directing The Matrix 4. Lana co-wrote the screenplay with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell but plot details currently remain unknown.

Keanu Reeves is set to reprise his role as Neo, and Carrie-Anne Moss returns as Trinity. New cast members include Jessica Henwick, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Brian J. Smith, Toby Onwumere, and Jonathan Groff.

Considered one of the most influential sci-fi movies ever made, The Matrix and its sequels were hugely successful. Although the sequels didn’t live up to the first film, the trilogy still brought in $1.6 billion at the global box office.

The Matrix 4 was originally going to arrive on May 21, 2021. There is no news on how many more weeks of filming will be needed and there is no new release date set. Questions of safety measures and insurance still remain but this news brings some much-needed hope for film lovers everywhere.
