Don’t fix what’s not broken. 20th Century Studios has hired Dan Trachtenberg, the director of Prey, to return to the Predator franchise for the next installment. The current working title for the film is Badlands, which will not be a sequel to the 2022 reinvention of the beloved horror franchise. It will have a woman lead.
Prey‘s story was developed by the director with Patrick Aison, who wrote the screenplay. They are going through the same process for Badlands. It could start production by July as much pre-production work has been completed.
Prey Director Dan Trachtenberg Signs Up for a New Predator Movie
Dan Trachtenberg reinvigorated the Predator movies with Prey. After years of misses, he found a hit with the Hulu movie. It was set in 1719, in which a Native American tribe was being hunted by an alien. It starred Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, and Dane DiLiegro. It was nominated for six Emmys and won for its sound editing.
Since Disney took over the reins for various Fox properties like Alien and Predator and the 2022 film became a hit, we see new breath being breathed into these R-rated films. Alien: Romulus will be released in August from Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez. An Alien series from Fargo writer is in the works. Meanwhile, various Predator projects are in the works, but we don’t have details on what the future looks like for now.
