Is that an ear?

A tenant in an Indiana apartment might be experiencing a Lovecraftian story right in his home, after he took a photo that could be of a rat or something else. Reddit user Idrakeanddrive isn’t the tenant in question, but is the office lady working with the apartment’s management and pest control to figure out exactly what the creature is. That said, she posted the photo the resident shared with her on r/whatisit, leaving many Redditors both disturbed and confused about the seemingly fuzzy entity’s identity.

“We cannot figure out what this is. Doesn’t really look like a raccoon, opossum, or a squirrel,” Idrakeanddrive wrote, adding how the neighbors have not yet reported any missing pets. “They think it looks like a bunny or something,” she remarked. The unsettling bit is that whatever it is is alive, as OP reported that the creature disappeared after pest control arrived at the scene.

Many people demanded Idrakeanddrive go in there herself and tear out the wall to free the identified animal. “I mean get it out of the wall. No matter what it is it needs to come out. Leaving it in there will only prolong the suffering if it’s alive,” suggested a commenter. OP quickly reminded them that she’s just an office lady; it’s not her job to enter tenants’ homes and tear out walls.

One person reacting to the fact that the mysterious creature moved couldn’t contain their distress over the animal: “Oh gosh so the poor thing is still alive! The whiskers make it seem like a cat, but could be a raccoon too. Maybe the resident can put out some food and water for it.”

The Indiana Office Lady Claimed the Creature Was Actively Crawling Through the Apartment’s  Floors

In an update to the post, Idrakeanddrive added that the tenant claimed he could hear the animal moving around above, likely moving between floors. “He said he heard it fall before he was able to get that picture but it seems to have gotten back up and is now only above him,” she explained.

Going back to the discussion over what the creature is, some claimed it looked like a seal or an otter, among other whiskered mammals. Hundreds of users agreed with one commenter who pointed out how the photo looks like an image that’s supposed to simulate what a person sees when suffering from a stroke.

Idrakeanddrive left a comment saying the neighbors had even claimed they heard the creature crawling around and under the floors, with some saying it was around their bathtub. “My maintenance team will have to start cutting holes in the ceiling if nothing else happens soon,” she wrote, which means the trail will be ice cold under the whiskered critter reveals itself again.
