For decades, The Sims had little to no competition in the life-sim genre. Now, however, competitors such as the long-awaited inZOI have popped up and are now ready for release. One would think that The Sims would be threatened by inZOI (like what happened in Diablo-like games), but something more wholesome happened, and the two games even welcomed each other over a fruitcake.
The adorable incident happened on X/Twitter of all places (goes to show that there’s still good in that platform). inZOI was recently released in Early Access and tweeted its promotional dance video. In response, The Sims official X account replied with an image of one of its popular Sims holding a fruitcake with the caption “Sul Sul! We brought fruitcake!” in an act of online goodwill and celebration.
And to everybody’s delight, the official inZOI account not only acknowledged the fruitcake gesture from The Sims but also added it to its table of treats, stating that The Sims‘ welcome was the final touch to inZOI‘s Early Access release. Everybody danced and cheered in celebration, and for this day, X/Twitter enjoyed peace and cooperation– a much-needed respite for the gaming community.
Ultimately, the friendly and joyous online interaction between the two supposedly competing life-sim gaming brands has shut down the rabid fans of both parties– especially those looking for blood, figuratively. It’s quite possibly the cutest interaction in the gaming community for this year, as instead of one-upping each other like many other competing video games do, they celebrated each other’s existence.
The Sims is Excited for the New Competition
Perhaps one of the reasons why The Sims pulled off such a cooperative PR move in the midst of inZOI‘s launch is that the creative director of The Sims itself is welcoming competition. The Sims VP Lyndsay Pearson has even stated that she likes to be challenged, but she doesn’t see inZOI as a hostile competitor.
In fact, Pearson is excited to see more people trying in the life-sim genre so they can better see what the players want. Fans of inZOI are certainly in agreement and have found The Sims X/Twitter gestures endearing.
“This is actually cute. Life sims gotta stick together,” remarks Redditor gonezaloh
“It’s nice to see them take that approach. I don’t care if some people think it’s not authentic. There’s no need for a war; both games can coexist, and each will attract its own playerbase,” states Redditor Unusual_Fold5289
“To be a fly on the wall at the Sims/EA work meetings over the last Week. lol,” jokes Redditor Very-very-sleepy
The Sims might just get what it wishes for, because Paralives, another life-sim– and something much closer in appearance to The Sims 4, is also coming out in 2025. Overall, the genre is bound to become more lively, and The Sims is going to need more fruitcakes.
