CD Projekt Red is breathing new life into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, by releasing the official mod editor this month. The editor is called The Witcher 3 REDkit, and it gives tinkerers every tool imaginable to create and customize every part of The Witcher 3 to their heart’s content.
This includes creating new areas of the maps, new story beats, new quests, animations, people, and more. This essentially allows modders to create and add any kind of content to the game, limited only by their creativity. It offers the same level of control and customization as the tools that the developers had while making the game. So there’s nothing stopping modders from creating entirely new experiences in the RED Engine.
The Witcher 3 REDkit Release Date Confirmed & It Will Be a Modder’s Dream
Releasing on May 21, 2024, The Witcher 3 REDkit will be released for free for anyone who already owns The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC. But if anyone wants to get their hands on the mod kit earlier than the release, you can give it a shot by signing up for the playtest before the release date.
The Witcher 3 has a massive player base, according to CD Projekt Red, the game has sold well over 50 million units since its release back in 2015, which makes it one of the top 10 best-selling games ever made.
So while fans wait for the upcoming Witcher and Cyberpunk projects to come to life, they can create their own experiences in the meantime and share them with other players.
Since CD Projekt Red has completely dropped its internally developed RED Engine and moved to Unreal Engine 5, the studio has nothing to lose by sharing The Witcher 3 REDkit. Quite the opposite, as it will result in more free content being created for The Witcher 3, letting players revisit the game almost a decade after its release.`
