Any show that manages to break viewership records before it even hits the screen is one to keep an eye on. That is exactly why This Is Us from directors John Requa and Glen Ficarra should definitely be on your radar. In the week since its release, the first trailer for this new show from 20th Century Fox has managed to garner not one, not two, but 42 million views on Facebook and just over six million on Youtube, smashing all previous records for a fall show.
Check the trailer out below, but due to the presence of bum within the first five seconds, be aware that it is a bit NSFW!

This is Us, which will center on a number of characters whose lives “intertwine in mysterious ways” other than merely sharing the same birthday, has certainly peaked the interest of a number of people. Perhaps it’s the big-name cast (including Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore), maybe it’s the focus on everyday human struggles: Whatever the reason, it is red hot at the moment! The trailer features characters losing children in childbirth, rediscovering family members and desperately trying to develop self-confidence and that’s just three characters from a larger cast.
However, the actual specifics of the plot are kept tantalizingly obscure from the trailer. Clearly, the producers do not want to give too much away at this early stage. In fact, other than the shared birthday, there appears to be no obvious connection between each of the characters featured whatsoever.
It will certainly be an interesting experience to see how these various stories weave together in a cohesive way. If the trailer is any indication of the tone of the actual show, it will be a poignant mix of sadness, humour, and anger – a true human experience. Prepare for your heartstrings to get tugged!
Viewers can expect This is Us premiere to debut this fall on NBC.
