Marvel fans are most likely already excited for the upcoming Thor: Love & Thunder. If not, the latest bit of casting news might do the trick. As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter and later IGN, Chris Pratt has signed onto the sequel. Pratt will reprise his role as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord from the Guardians of the Galaxy series.
Pratt is joining an already stacked cast. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor as does Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. Director Taika Waititi, who voiced the alien Korg in Thor: Ragnarok, is also returning. In January, Christian Bale joined as an unknown character. Though it is understood he will play the film’s villain, it is still unknown which character Bale will portray. Rumors point to Dario Agger, the CEO of Roxxon Energy who can turn into a Minotaur.
THR also implied that other members of the Guardians could appear in Thor: Love & Thunder. This matches up with what Vin Diesel let slip during an interview in March. Diesel, who voices Groot, was promoting his upcoming film, Bloodshot, at the time.
But the story doesn’t end with the casting. We also now know that the fourth Thor film will begin filming in Australia this January. THR states Pratt “will do a short round of additional photography for his sci-fi movie The Tomorrow War before heading to the land Down Under.” However, the size of his role is unknown as of writing.
Thor and Star-Lord enjoyed some comedic banter during Avengers: Infinity War and were both last seen in Avengers: Endgame. The God of Thunder headed out on an adventure with the Guardians, leaving the Asgardians in the capable hands of Valkyrie.
Thor: Love & Thunder currently has a release date of February 11, 2022. However, Disney has had to shift its entire release schedule around more than once due to the coronavirus pandemic. Let’s hope the anticipated sequel gets to keep this date.
