Three former Assasins Creed Devs have joined Stadia Games. This news coming from Video Games Chronicle, it has been announced that the senior devs will be joining the newly created studio. So, who are the folks joining Stadia Games? That would be Sébastien Puel, Francois Pelland and Mathieu Leduc.
Firstly, Puel is a major figure behind Assasins Creed and served as an executive producer from Assasins Creed 2 up until 2014’s Unity. He is serving as general director of the company.
Secondly, Pelland served as executive director at Ubisoft Quebec on 2015’s Syndicate and was a senior producer on Assasins Creed 3. Pelland is serving as head of the production regarding Google’s first-party game strategy.
Finally, Leduc has served as art director on the first two Watch Dogs games and worked as assistant art director on the first Assasins Creed. He is serving as an art director at Stadia Games.
It is clear that the new studio will have a Ubisoft flavor to it!
A Little About Stadia Games
Stadia Games is the platform’s first in-house studio. Set up in Montreal in October, the studio is looking to take some “bets” with projects developed. Founded by Jade Raymond, also formerly of an Assasins Creed background, she spoke about the company’s goals to Gamesindustry.biz back in October.
Raymond said in the interview:
“It’s very important for first-party games, in my opinion, to be games that wouldn’t be possible on any other platform, I think that’s what’s really exciting and why we’re building out the first-party teams.”
So, Stadia Games will be working towards the platform’s strengths. Therefore, we could assume that the games will be an experiment in themselves. However, with the mixed reception to the launch to the service, it’s not clear what those strengths are.
Either way, reading further into the interview makes it clear that Raymond has a vision for this division. And, with these new members joining the studio, Stadia’s future may not be as dim as it looks.
