DC Universe’s hit show Titans has stopped production temporarily. Special effects coordinator Warren Appleby was supervising a stunt scene when it went awry, and he passed away as a result.
Warren Appleby’s Tragic Passing
Warren Appleby died while practicing a stunt at a test facility. Such facilities help crews to practice stunt maneuvers and plan the camera work accordingly. The crew then uses this preparation information to film the scene. According to reports, the stunt involved a car flipping over. However, during the flip, a piece of shrapnel broke off from the car and hit Appleby in the head. The crew member passed while being transported to the hospital.
In the wake of Appleby’s passing, Warner Bros Television issued a statement regarding the incident.
“We are heartbroken and devastated by the passing of our treasured colleague, special effects coordinator Warren Appleby, after an accident which occurred at a special effects facility during the preparation and testing for an upcoming shoot. Warren is beloved by all who worked with him during an impressive 25-year career in television and motion pictures. The executive producers, along with everyone, in the Titans family, Warner Bros. Television Group and DC UNIVERSE, wish to express our deepest condolences, and heartfelt love and support, to Warren’s family and friends at this most difficult time.”
Warren Appleby worked on many different projects throughout his life. Television credits include Robocop (1994 series) to Killjoys (2015). In addition, Appleby lent his skills to many theatrical productions like Saw IV and The Shape of Water. He worked on the first It feature film and completed work on It Chapter 2 before he passed.
Production of Titans will halt for approximately two days. Canada’s Ministry of Labour has opened an investigation into the incident. A GoFundMe memorial fund in Warren Appleby’s name is live.
