Instead, the teen’s mother, actress Katie Holmes, helped the incoming freshmen move into her dorm at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, over the weekend. Meanwhile, the Top Gun star was nowhere in sight.
Of course, fans didn’t expect to see Tom Cruise join Katie Holmes for the big milestone in Suri Cruise’s life. The actor has been absent for much of his daughter’s childhood. Since he and Holmes divorced in 2012, the two have kept their distance from each other, and the Dawson’s Creek star has retained full custody of Suri.

Over the weekend, Suri was seen wearing long denim shorts and a flowy, off-the-shoulder top as she and her mother hauled her belongings into her dorm, per The Daily Mail. Suri wore a necklace with a large flower pendant around her neck and rings on her fingers. She pulled her long, dark hair back into a ponytail for a casual look.
Meanwhile, Holmes rocked a similar laid-back style. The actress sported a loose-fitting button-down shirt, jeans, and sunglasses. She also styled her hair in a ponytail as she was seen carrying bags into Suri’s new college home.
Meanwhile, Tom Cruise was busy filming the latest installment of his Mission: Impossible franchise. However, that didn’t stop fans from brutally criticizing the absentee father online.
“A Father is someone involved in raising you. If Tom hasn’t been involved, even behind the scenes, he really has no right to be called her Father,” one person stated.
