Berries are among some of the most important resources in Ark: Survival Ascended, and they really require some decent creatures to gather them. While you can gather them yourself, slaving over bush after push only to get 15 berries can get tiresome quickly. However, some creatures can collect hundreds of berries with a single swipe of their tail, and some have a greatly reduced carry weight for berries. Those are the ones you want to look out for and snatch up as soon as possible.
10. Paraceratherium
The Paracer is a large, slow beast. We won’t mention their nickname here, but from looking at them, you can probably guess it. While they don’t have much going for them in the way of speed (or looks), they can gather berries much faster than most creatures. Given their massive size, they can attack a larger area and hold loads of berries on them at any point.
9. Castoroides
The Castoroides is a very large beaver you can ride around. While it makes sense that an oversized beaver should be used for gathering wood, you should see one of them on the hunt for berries. They’re agile, quick, and have no issues plowing through a few bushes. While they aren’t the best gatherers, they’re some of the most convenient, given their size. They can easily be scooped up by an Argentavis and relocated.
8. Therizinosaur
In my opinion, Therizinosaur is one of the best all-around creatures in Ark. While his nickname, Murder Chicken, might indicate other things, Theri is an exceptional berry gatherer. Their large finger-slaws are perfect for sifting through foliage and separating berries from the stem. Additionally, Murder Chicken can do a lot to protect you if you’re gathering berries in dangerous areas.
7. Procoptodon
The Procoptodon is a prehistoric kangaroo and a pretty awesome one at that. Procoptodons can gather berries quickly with their impressive kick attacks and disappear at a moment’s notice if need be. They can travel long distances relatively fast with their “super jump,” making them a great creature to take with you to gather berries. If you have a friend with you, they can hop inside the Procoptodon’s pouch and come along for the ride.
6. Mammoth
The Mammoth is a pretty obvious choice. Its sheer size alone indicated that it can move large loads from one place to another and attack dozens of bushes at a time. Its carrying capacity outweighs its slow and sometimes annoying speed by quite a bit, making collecting tons of berries in a short time possible.
5. Iguanodon
The Iguanodon is a fascinating creature that has a very unique ability. It’s great for collecting berries fast, but its potential as a utility tame makes it much better for farming berries. While it can collect berries, it can also turn every berry into seeds rather than edible berries. Those seeds can then be planted and grown into a limitless source of berries.
4. Stegosaurus
The Stegosaurus is a unique and well-known dinosaur. Its large spikey plates make for great defense and attacks, but it also has another quality that is pretty useful. The Stego has impressive carrying capabilities by itself. Still, while carrying berries it has a massive boost to its carrying capacity, so you can essentially carry multiple times the amount of berries you usually could.
3. Triceratops
The Triceratops is one of the best creature options for gathering berries in Ark: Survival Ascended for a few reasons. First, it can move swiftly for its size and collect large amounts of berries. Second, and finally, Triceratops are pretty easy to both find and tame. You can find them anywhere grass grows on The Island, and they only take a few tranq arrows and Mejoberries to knock out and tame.
2. Chalicotherium
There is one particular reason that Chalicotheriums are nearly at the top of berry gatherers. Not many players are aware of it, but Chalicos are the only dinosaurs capable of collecting berries while sprinting. Assuming you have decent stamina and carry weight, Chalicotheriums can collect berries faster than any other creature within Ark: Survival Ascended.
1. Brontosaurus
The Bronto is the most obvious choice for a berry gatherer. Its massive tail attack spans a large area and can collect more berries at once than any other dinosaur can. It moves quite slowly and can carry an entire base on its back, so once you have the berries you need, you won’t have far to travel to get back home.
