The upcoming year is bound to be one of the best for the gaming industry. While 2022 was a bit slow on big releases, 2023 is the opposite. We have some great titles that will launch as soon as the year begins. However, there is one genre that will shine a lot in the coming months. Survival horror games have been quiet for a while. While there are some indie games that have made an impact, this year will get big titles from classic franchises that people already love. So, if you’re looking for games to play the next year, today we have our list of the Top 10 Survival Horror games coming in 2023.
10. Fatal Frame Mask of the Lunar Eclipse
Arriving on March 9, 2023, Fatal Frame Mask of the Lunar Eclipse launches for many platforms. The game kicks off with five girls disappearing during an island festival, losing most of their memories. After that, a murder mystery is thrown into the mix that makes the characters go back to the island. The game is set inside an abandoned sanatorium full of horrors that anyone who has played Fatal Frame can expect. Developed by Koei Tecmo, the game looks like it’ll be full of jumpscares, and it is a nice way to start our list of the Top 10 survival horror games coming in 2023.
Fatal Frame Mask of the Lunar Eclipse will launch on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
9. Alone in the Dark
Let’s start with the season of remakes. Alone in the Dark was a cult classic back in 1992. It served as an inspiration for many other survival horror games of the decade. Now, we’re getting a remake that looks both amazing and haunting. Alone in the Dark, developed by THQ Nordic, the remake claims it is coming soon. While there isn’t a set date yet, most people think that a release window of 2023 seems right. If you want to experience one of the games that kick-started the survival horror genre, this is your chance.
Alone in the Dark will release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
8. Alan Wake 2
Back in 2010, we got one of the best thriller/horror games of the past decade. Alan Wake brought to the table some interesting storytelling and gameplay elements. With an engaging story and an amazing way of telling it, Alan Wake became a cult classic. Now, after its announcement in 2021, Alan Wake 2 is set to arrive this 2023. The date isn’t set yet, but if everything goes right, we should be seeing the game sooner than later.
Alan Wake 2 will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Epic Games store.
7. Sons of the Forest
Continuing with our list of Top 10 survival horror games coming in 2023, we have a game with a smaller studio but a big scope nonetheless. It seems as if it was yesterday when we got the trailer of The Forest, a survival horror game with an emphasis on both aspects. This time, the player wasn’t stuck in linear corridors; instead, they were stuck in a forest looking for a way to build a base to survive. Combining survival elements with some of the creepiest creatures we’ve seen in years, The Forest had some great reviews. Now, Sons of the Forest is the next entry of the series, and we can’t wait for it. This time, instead of finding your kid, you’ll be searching for a billionaire in a place infested by cannibals.
Sons of the Forest will launch on February 2023 for PC.
6. System Shock
Yet another remake on our list of the best survival horror games of 2023. We don’t say it is a bad thing though. 1994 was the year when we got to experience System Shock. A game that became a cult classic in the sci-fi horror genre. Now, 2023 is the year when we’ll get a remake with upgraded visuals, engaging gameplay, and some good sci-fi horror. The game is set to release in March of 2023 with it only coming to PC right now.
System Shock will launch on PC through GOG, Steam, and the Epic Games store in March 2023.
5. The Day Before
While some people still think it might be too good to be true, The Day Before promises a lot of things that we hope it delivers them. The next game on our Top 10 survival horror games of 2023 is The Day Before. This is an MMO game that will have a bit of everything. Housing, PvE, PvP, a lot of fashion, amazing visuals, and zombies. It looks like a tremendously ambitious game and we hope that it stays that way because a The Division-like MMO is something we are all craving.
The Day Before will release on PC via Steam on March 1, 2023.
4. Silent Hill f
Silent Hill is back and it is back with a bang. We’re not only getting one game, we’re getting two. But, let’s focus on the first on our list. Silent Hill f is set in 1960s Japan where, as you might guess, horrors lurk in every corner. The trailer shows some amazing and haunting visuals that we can’t wait to explore when the game arrives. We are all hoping for a 2023 release date, but nothing has been officially announced. In the meantime, there’ll be another Silent Hill game to spend our time on while waiting for the newest entry.
Silent Hill f is currently in development.
3. Dead Space Remake
While there are sci-fi horror games that came way before Dead Space, this title is the one that revamped the genre. The first title brought some great additions to horror games. A nice and clean UI, amazing combat, and a setting that few games can match. While The Callisto Protocol tried, Dead Space is still a staple when it comes to horror in space. The remake is almost here, and it is one of the first games we’ll get to play in 2023. Better visuals, an extended story, and the good old gruesome combat we all love is right around the corner.
Dead Space Remake launches on January 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
2. Silent Hill 2 Remake
Now, on to the final two of our Top 10 survival horror games of 2023. Silent Hill has always been a beloved franchise that has a huge cult of fans behind it. Yet, one of the games that put the franchise on the map was Silent Hill 2. Now, we are finally getting the remake we all deserve.
Silent Hill 2 Remake is in development and will launch for PS5 and PC.
1. Resident Evil 4 Remake
Finally, the number one on our list: Resident Evil 4 Remake. This is the game that marked an era. A lot of titles started using the camera of this game, and many other survival horror games took inspiration from Resident Evil 4. Now, this year, we’ll get the remake that was already rumored a long time ago. With new mechanics, stunning visuals, and features we love from the first game, this is a title that Resident Evil fans need to get.
Resident Evil 4 Remake launches on March 24, 2023, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
As you can see, 2023 is bound to be one of the best years for the genre. With many remakes and some original concepts, the year will be full of jumpscares and creepy things. You can wishlist almost all games on our list right now. And, while you’re at it, remember that the Steam Winter Sale of 2022 is happening right now. So, prepare yourself for these survival horror games that are coming in 2023 and beyond.
