It goes without saying that 2023 has been an absolutely stellar year for gaming. Tears of the Kingdom, Diablo 4, and Final Fantasy XVI are just a few of the masterpieces we have been graced with thus far. That being said, we still have plenty of spectacular titles that are set to release later this year! While there is always the possibility of delays, here are the top 11 most anticipated games coming in September 2023.
Starfield
After years of hints, trailers, and delays, Starfield will finally hit store shelves on September 6th. It is, without a doubt, the most hotly anticipated game of September, and for good reason too! Todd Howard has called it a culmination of “five or six games in one,” which truly highlights just how big this game is. Plus, with 1,000 different in-game planets, the modding scene is sure to be huge.
With 25 years in the making, Starfield will indeed be taking up plenty of our free time. Let’s just hope it doesn’t distract us too much from the other great games coming in September 2023.
Baldur’s Gate 3
It has been over 20 years since the launch of Baldur’s Gate 2, and fans are well overdue for a third game in the franchise. Thankfully, it seems that the long wait has paid off because the game is massive. The developers have even come forward, claiming it will have a staggering 17,000 endings!
While it is already available to those on PC, Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t drop on PlayStation until September 6th. That’s the same day as Starfield, so gamers are going to have a seriously tough choice to make!
NBA 2K24
This year’s entry in the NBA 2K series is set to release on September 8th. Between NBA 2K24 and last year’s NBA 2K game, not much has changed. It will, however, feature the long-awaited addition of cross-play.
The game focuses on the late Kobe Bryant and will have a series of challenges highlighting his biggest career moments for players to endeavor. NBA 2K24 also marks the 25th anniversary of the franchise, so a special edition of the game will be for sale to all.
The Crew: Motorfest
The Crew: Motorfest is a direct sequel to Crew 2. Similarly to its predecessors, the game will take place in a massive recreation of a real-world area. Only this time, it’s the settlement of O’ahu, an island in the archipelago of Hawaii.
The Crew: Motorfest releases on September 14th and is set to be one of Ubisoft’s most beautiful games to date. Racing fans are going to want to be sure to give it a try.
Mortal Kombat 1
Despite being leaked early this year, fans are still over-the-moon at the announcement of a Mortal Kombat reboot. A plethora of trailers depicting its ludicrous violence and stunning visuals have contributed to its pre-launch hype.
The game is set to have the most expansive character cast in the franchise. Developers have somehow managed to snag the rights to properties such as The Boys, Peacemaker, and Omni-Man. Between Mortal Kombat 1 and Street Fighter 6, it has certainly been a fantastic year for fans of fighting games. Mortal Kombat 1 is set to release on September 19th and will be available on
Lies of P
One of the surprising smash-hits of the
Players progressing through the game will be forced to decide whether or not to lie on multiple occasions, and the choices you make will directly impact the ending of the story. This is made much more difficult by the looming threat of horrific enemies, who are both unforgiving and brutally difficult. Lies of P releases on September 19th and has surprised us all by becoming one of our most anticipated games coming in September 2023.
Payday 3
It has been 10 years since fans of the Payday series last got a new game to play, but the third installment in the franchise is finally set to release on September 21st. You can rest easy knowing that the story of Payday 3 picks up immediately where Payday 2 left off.
Based on what we’ve seen in the preview trailers, the game is set to be just as bombastic as ever. However, this time things look much more polished. Fluid animations and a plethora of new game mechanics ensure that Payday 3 will feel as fresh as ever, even to the most die-hard of fans.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
The long-awaited expansion to Cyberpunk 2077 finally comes out on September 26th. This has been a long time coming, considering that the game originally launched almost 3 years ago! Of course, much of that time was spent making the base game playable.
Phantom Liberty is CD Projekt RED’s most expensive DLC to date. This is due, in part, to the DLC featuring an entirely new map and story. If that isn’t enough to convince you, it’s worth noting that the beloved Idris Elba will be taking the stage as a main character!
Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos
Set to release on the same day as Phantom Liberty, Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos launches 25 years after the original. In a month full of bombastic titles, this game will be a nice breath of fresh air.
Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos takes clear inspiration from games such as Breath of the Wild and Pokemon. After what was arguably a disappointing fifth entry to the series, fans are eager to give this latest addition a try.
EA Sports FC 2024
After EA’s decades-long partnership with FIFA ended in 2023, EA immediately began work on their own version of the Fifa franchise. EA Sports FS is essentially a re-skin of the FIFA series, so fans will be overjoyed to learn that they aren’t quite missing out on anything.
What really makes EA Sports FC stand out from previous soccer games is that it will include the ability for male and female players to play alongside each other. The game is also set to run on a newly revamped version of EA’s Frostbite engine, allowing for the most fluid animations to date. EA Sports FC 2024 launches on September 29th.
Cocoon
Also launching on September 29th, Cocoon is one of 2024’s most anticipated Indie games. The game is headed by Jeppe Carlsen, the lead gameplay designer of games such as Limbo and Inside.
Although still mysterious, the game seems to take on a much more light-hearted feel than Carlsen’s previous works. If puzzle-solving is your thing, then be sure to check out Cocoon on PC,
