Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s recent “date night” at the LA Dodgers game is more covertly sinister than anyone could have thought. The two wayward royals didn’t go out of their own interest in baseball but were invited to the game by one Mark Walter. Sports fans will recognize this individual as the new World Series champions’ chairman, a well-to-do billionaire, and one of President Trump’s friends. And by friend, Walter is actually someone who manages a company that funds Trump’s ICE detention centers in the US.
According to Daily Mail, Dodgers fans might love their team, but they are not fans of Walter’s connection to ICE, nor do they want him getting involved with Trump. Yet, like Trump, Walter is a businessman, and where there is profit to be made, the man will be grifting. And ironically, this MAGA-supporting grifter has successfully invited two of the biggest alleged grifters of the current decade, Harry and Meghan. Now, Meghan reaching out for “freebies” is nothing new, considering she was also reportedly “invited” to Paris Fashion Week. But the controversy here lies in Harry and Meghan’s history with politics in the US.

Back in 2020, the two donated over half a million dollars to Democrat-linked organizations that supported Joe Biden. On top of that, Meghan has publicly criticized President Trump, calling him “misogynistic” and “divisive.” Her husband has even claimed the President has “blood on his hands.” It’s no secret that Trump has less than mutual feelings for the Sussex couple as well. Yet, the two still chose to accept the invitation from the ICE-funding Mark Walter and even make a big spectacle out of it.
Until now, Harry and Meghan have marketed themselves as social justice warriors and humanitarian activists, but Sussex critics are more than sure that their actions are “performative, not principled.” Whoever benefits their reputations, business practices, or personal endeavors is who they will align with. As one Redditor puts it, “The humanitarian work is branding, not conviction.” Many A-listers in Hollywood and other celebrities have been very outspoken about being against ICE and the Trump administration. Yet, “the Californian Markles took the free tickets, toured the dugout, and posted it gleefully on Instagram.“
It’s a surprise to no one that Harry and Meghan have indirectly sided with Trump and ICE through Walters. But it further harms their public image, especially among Americans. One thing is clear: “They have a hypocrisy problem.” And people didn’t even need to know about the Walter invitation to boo the Sussexes without hesitation at the Dodgers game.
