How are you all feeling after the crushing disappointment of The Last of Us: Part II being delayed? Hopefully not too bad because Ubisoft has jumped in on the bandwagon as they have announced delays for not just one game, but three.

Watch Dogs Legion, Rainbow Six Quarantine, and Gods & Monsters have all been delayed until the 2020-21 fiscal year. Exactly when is anyone’s guess.

Ubisoft

In a Ubisoft press release, Co-Founder and Cheif Executive Yves Guillemot mentioned that Ghost Recon Breakpoint has not performed as well as the company expected. He states that the last two AAA games that Ubisoft released have not reached their full potential. Translation, Ghost Recon Breakpoint and The Division 2 didn’t make as much money as Ubisoft had thought.

According to Mr. Guillemot, Ghost Recon didn’t perform well for a number of reasons. He states the prior game had many updates and there wasn’t enough time between these and a sequel, gameplay innovations didn’t win over enough players, and that the game didn’t stand out.

He then justifies the delays, as follows:

“We have decided to postpone the releases of Gods & Monsters, Rainbow Six Quarantine and Watch Dogs Legion until 2020-21. While each of these games already has a strong indentity and high potential, we want our teams to have more developement time to ensure that their respective innovations are perfectly implemented so as to deliver optimal experiences for players.”

While no one wants to see games delayed, especially should you be excited for them, I once again say that I’m all for it. This seems to be a daily occurrence now and I may just permanently copy this to my clipboard, but I’d much rather a game was delayed and the players get the best possible experience.

Just look at WWE 2K20, nobody wants to see a game released in that state. We all spend our hard-earned money on the hobby we love and we want to receive quality in return. Ubisoft may have only realized this as their profits are down, but hopefully, it’s a model that continues.

Quality over quantity. Maybe someone should send the memo over to EA. I’m sure they’d listen.

Let us know in the comments your thoughts on game delays. In a perfect world, we’d all like developers to announce a release date they know they can hit without the decrease of quality, but we live in different times now.
