This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Everybody needs a roof above their heads, even vampires — especially vampires. Wouldn’t want that sun melting your goth makeup now, would you? Thankfully, V Rising allows you to build a roof on your castle right away. It’s also now in its newly released 1.0 version. If you’re new to the game, you’re probably confused as to why the roof seems to have a life of its own. Sometimes, the roof in V Rising is not generating, no matter what you do. So allow me to guide you on how to make a roof in V Rising.

Roof Building Requirements in V Rising

In V Rising, the roof structure isn’t exactly present in the build menu. The game will automatically generate a roof around an enclosed Castle Wall or Foundation inside. That means you only have to worry about the cost of the Castle Wall itself, along with the cost of building the Foundation.

The Castle Walls and the Foundation or Flooring structures typically need these materials:

  • Stone Brick
  • Plank

More special Flooring types might need Copper Ingots or Iron Ingots but you don’t have to worry too much about those if you’re just after a roof.

Speaking of which, here’s the step-by-step process to ensure that the roof will generate:

  1. Plan your Castle perimeter and lay down the Flooring first. Start with Castle Flooring or Basic Flooring, as they’re the cheapest.
  2. The shape of your Castle Flooring typically determines the shape of the roof.
  3. Build the Castle Walls around your Flooring. Make sure that every tile inside the Castle Wall perimeter is covered with Flooring.
  4. Don’t forget to put a Castle Gate or Windows.

Now, there might be some instances where the roof doesn’t generate even if you follow the instructions. There might be several causes or it might just be a bug, but check out our solution below.

Sometimes, the roof will not generate no matter how many Flooring or walls you’ve placed. This has also happened to my session.

The culprit was usually a Castle Heart or a structure that I moved. This left an empty tile within the Castle Wall perimeter. Even just one tile with no Flooring will delete the whole roof. So you want to make sure all tiles have Flooring, especially if you have multiple floors. Double-check if you must.

You can also try to move your Castle Heart around to try to trigger the issue and then fix it.

V Rising 1.0 version is out now and available on PC and PlayStation platforms.
