The grand finals of the Dota 2 Frankfurt major are happening right now between Team Secret and OG. Right on schedule, (according to PCGamer) Valve has announced the date and location of their next major. The Shanghai major is taking place, obviously, in Shanghai, China at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. It will begin on March 2, 2016, and conclude on March 6th.
There has not been information released yet on the prize pool offered, but the Frankfurt major has a $3 million dollar payout split among the teams. It is likely that the Shanghai major will feature a similar pay structure.
Chinese Teams have not fared well in the Frankfurt major, with the only EHOME making much noise. Both Team Secret and OG are European squads, with OG needing to qualify for their spot and Team Secret securing an invite. The home field advantage may help the Chinese squads, although, at the last Dota 2 Asian Championship, the crown was taken by the North American squad Evil Geniuses.
The Frankfurt major that is finishing up this weekend is the first of three major Dota 2 tournaments that will lead up to The International 2016 at the end of summer. With the Shanghai major being announced, and The International generally taking place in Seattle, Washington, it is anyone’s guess where the final major will take place. Dota 2 is one of the heaviest hitters in the world of e-sports, featuring huge prize payouts, selling out arenas to watch the event live, and garnering hundreds of thousands of viewers on Twitch.
