Bloodlines 2 is the followup to the cult classic Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, which originally released in 2004. The sequel shifts locations from Los Angeles to Seattle, but continues the dark and gritty tone set in the first game.
Both games are based on the 1991 Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines tabletop role-playing game.
Bloodlines 2 Delayed to Improve Quality
In a developer blog post, the developers stipulate that the reason for the delay is to make sure the sequel is a worthy successor to the original game. They see the quality of the game as more important than hitting their Q1 launch.
The first Vampire: The Masquerade game was known for the branching story and deep characters, which Hardsuit Labs says they are achieving. Given that the narrative team for Bloodlines 2 comprises industry heavy hitters like Chris Avellone and Cara Ellison, there is no reason to worry at the moment.
However, given that the first game came out in a less than ideal state, Hardsuit Labs hopes to avoid that entirely. While the hope was to continue with the originally 2020 launch window, the developers concluded that to produce a quality product will require more time.
Most developers tend to keep quiet about any issues going on through development, which can become detrimental at times. Hardsuit Labs explaining why they are pushing back their launch and how the game will improve from it is quite refreshing and shows how much they care about the game overall.
