Venom: Let There Be Carnage ravaged its way to the second-best box office draw for a post-Covid Thursday night preview, according to Deadline. At the top of the list is another black-clad Marvel character; Black Widow stormed its way to the top of that list when its box office numbers rang all the way up to $13.5M.
Venom: Let’s Get That Money
What did Venom make on its preview night? Only $10M, which is not horrible; it’s more encouraging to see that the sequel is making nearly a third more than it did. In total, Venom made $80M in its first opening weekend. Also on that list of best preview nights is another Marvel property, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings coming in third place with $8M and bringing up the rear is Universal’s F9 with a modest preview night of $7.1M. Hopes must be high over at Sony right now.
Speaking of Sony, they have told the media that they are going to hope that Venom: Let There Be Carnage runs along the same box office path that A Quiet Place Part II had for its Memorial Day weekend release as it hauled in $47.5M over the three days after its initial release. However, there are those who track these kinds of things that say that the carnage sequel is looking at a lofty $60M for the first three days. It has already made more in its Thursday night preview than A Quiet Place Part II, which only took in $4.8M on its own preview night.
These preview nights seem to be running earlier and earlier; soon we won’t just have preview nights, but probably preview weeks or even preview months. It could be cool, I guess…
