The first trailer for Venom: The Last Dance is here, and it is full of some symbiotic goodness. Tom Hardy (Venom, Mad Max: Fury Road) returns as Eddie Brock/Venom in this third outing, which was written and directed by Kelly Marcel (Venom, Saving Mr. Banks) in her directorial debut. Hardy is joined by newcomers to the Venom franchise, Juno Temple (Ted Lasso, Atonement), and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange, 12 Years a Slave). Returning are Stephen Graham (Snatch, Venom: Let There Be Carnage) as Patrick Mulligan and Peggy Lu (Venom, Always Be My Maybe) as Mrs. Chen.
The trailer, which you can watch above, is fairly by the numbers for a third Venom outing. It’s filled with the lethal protection you’ve come to expect and the buddy comedy that you’ve come to love. There seems to be an agency of some kind after Venom, attempting to at least lock him up to keep alien life a secret from the public. It also seems like we’ll be getting some new symbiotes from Klyntar in line with the comic books. Mulligan might also be getting to turn into Toxin. The trailer does make it seem like Venom: The Last Dance is raising the scale.
However, there are a couple of multiverse-breaking anomalies in the trailer. Firstly, we see Ejiofor’s character capture the shred of symbiote that Eddie left behind in the MCU, in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Ejiofor already played Mordo in Doctor Strange, so that’s a little odd. Secondly, Rhys Ifans, who played Curt Connors/The Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man: No Way Home also appears in the trailer. Could he still be playing Connors, like when Michael Keaton returned as Toomes for Morbius? We’ll have to see when Venom: The Last Dance swings into theaters on October 25, 2024.
