A TikTok video appears to show a driver in New Jersey repeatedly swerving toward a motorcyclist during a tense highway encounter and has been spreading on social media.
The video has gone viral for the danger the driver poses to the motorcyclist as he swerves through lanes and even forces the lone driver to lane-split. Commenters also noted the situation’s aggressiveness, saying it could have become fatal very quickly.
The TikTok video details a dangerous encounter between two motorists on a New Jersey highway. As the motorcyclist was trying to flee the other driver, they drove in between cars, posing a threat to other drivers.
The driver of the car was the one being aggressive. At the beginning of the video, he is clearly seen attempting to cut off the motorcyclist and making sure he doesn’t get in front.
At this, one commenter wrote, “Road rage does not equate to trying to kill someone. Yelling, giving the finger, etc sure road rage. Calling an actual attempt to harm someone road rage is down playing attempted murder.” Another person wrote, “I do not understand road rage. There is no reason for it.“
It is later revealed that an officer was present on the scene, having watched the situation happen before turning on his siren and lights.
Reactions to New Jersey Insane Road Rage
Users were primarily on the side of the motorcyclist, with one person writing, “That was def attempted murder, not a little road rage.” Others also expressed sympathy for the rider, with one commenter saying, “Poor dude on the bike…“
According to one of the top comments under the video, “For anyone wondering, the dude got pulled over and was arrested.” However, this is not explicitly seen in the video, only implied.
The video continues to spread on social media because it shows the dangers motorcyclists face daily on the highway. New Jersey law requires that riders have a working muffler, at least one rearview mirror, their headlights on, and wear goggles and a helmet. The rider in the video appears to meet all of that criteria.
As the video continues to gain views, it remains unclear whether reports of the driver being arrested are true. However, the police lights can be seen turning off just before the video ends. It does appear that no one was injured as a result of the driver’s actions.
