Warframe is About to Be More Accessible to Newcomers Thanks to a New Feature

After 2000 hours, I wouldn’t be surprised if I learn something new here

Despite going strong for 12 years and counting, Warframe has always had a double-edged quirk; it’s complicated and intimidating. Thankfully, developer Digital Extremes is about to address this quirkiness once more by introducing– for the first time ever, a tutorial quest for the game’s core feature.

A Modding Quest is On the Way

Granted, there are a lot of core features in Warframe each needing their own elaborate hand-holdy tutorial, so for this one, Digital Extremes will be focusing on Modding. Modding, for starters, is how you make your Warframes and weapons stronger, basically by installing Mods on them. And these Mods are available from enemies as drops or through trading with other players.

To ease players into this Modding system, Digital Extremes will be introducing a quest called “The Teacher,” featuring the character Teshin once more as a mentor for the players. This new quest will be launched sometime around Fall 2025 and will be immediately available after players finish the “Vor’s Prize” opening quest. This quest also comes with the following, and something Digital Extremes has never implemented before:

  • A unique new user interface for the Modding tutorial
  • An earlier introduction to Teshin or other mentor characters
  • A better narrative flow

It’s not clear whether old or veteran players will be able to replay the quest (not that they need to), though most quests in Warframe are replayable anyway.

Warframe‘s Mod system has several layers of complexity, such as cost reduction, stat mathematics, and lots of grinding, giving it the depth of an ocean trench. While this makes Warframe Modding a dreamland for theorycrafters, power-gamers, and min-maxers, it’s not the friendliest system to learn, especially for newcomers. This new mod quest could bridge the gap and help beginners feel less confused.

More QoLs Along the Way?

Depending on player reception to the upcoming Mod quest, there’s a chance that Digital Extremes could include or implement better tutorials for other complex systems in Warframe. It’s worth noting that Modding, while a core feature, isn’t even the most complex mechanic or interaction in Warframe.

Oftentimes, even old players or veterans returning from a long break from the game can find themselves as confused as newbies, especially if changes to existing systems were implemented. This new tutorial system and effort to make the game more accessible are something that could also help Warframe win more casual players on the mobile Android platform, whose gaming demographic usually consists mainly of casual players.
