Protoframes certainly opened the floodgates for many players in both customization and possibilities, mainly because the first six introduced are romance-able. Now, however, Warframe is expanding the roster of human Warframes or Protoframes, including some of the more obvious ones in the community.

In the most recent Devstream, Digital Extremes revealed four new Protoframes for the Techrot Encore, which is a follow-up to the Warframe 1999 expansion. For the record, the Techrot Encore update will be available on March 19, 2025. One of the Protoframes is also new and includes his own Gemini skin early on, here they are:

Velimir IIFrost
MinervaSaryn
KayaNova
Flare (new)Temple (new Warframe)

That’s quite a lot to unpack. We’ll talk about the new Warframe below. However, some of them are not exactly unexpected. Frost, Nova, and Saryn are among the first few legacy Warframes in the game and were no doubt obvious choices for the devs to create Protoframes for them.

Saryn is quite notable since the Warframe community previously thought that one of the villains in the Warframe 1999 quest, Major Rusalka, is supposed to be her Protoframe. Turns out they weren’t kidding when they said that Rusalka is not Saryn’s Protoframe.

Sadly, all new Protoframes or human Warframes are not available for romance or flirting, even though you can chat with them in the in-game AOL Instant Messenger. Minerva (Saryn) and Velimir (Frost) are actually ex-husband and wife, and are working through their divorce so they’re not ready for you. You can, however, try to help them reconcile through the Messenger.

Meanwhile, Kaya (Nova) is too busy tinkering with science and tech to even consider flirting with someone. As for Flare (Temple), the new Warframe just isn’t available– even though his Protoframe bears a striking resemblance to David Bowie (sad day for all of us).

Speaking of Temple, he’s quite special in many ways since he not only is the 60th Warframe but is also going to have one of the most unique and recognizable designs in the game so far. He wields an electric guitar as his exalted weapon and has fire-based abilities, putting him in the same role as Nezha or Ember.

Upon Techrot Encore‘s release, Temple will also be available and so will the corresponding new missions and mission events designed for obtaining him. The new game mode will be called Stage Defense, which is a reimagining of the traditional Defense mission.

You’ll have to defend Flare or Temple here as he puts up a memorial concert for the bandmates he lost during the tragic events of Warframe 1999. Again, all this will be available once Techrot Encore launches on March 19.
