Santa is now in Call of Duty: Warzone Season 1 and you can actually kill ol’ Saint Nick in a new game mode called “Santa’s Slayground.” This new iteration of the Resurgence mode has become so popular among fans, however, there’s more than gameplay features to it. That’s right, there’s a direct Black Ops Cold War easter egg in Warzone Santa’s Slayground, which is quite weird considering we’re still a year away from the release of the next BO game.
Warzone Season 1: Santa Has A Secret Massage From Black Ops
The new Christmas event is now live in Warzone Season 1, allowing players to complete objectives and earn valuable rewards in the new Resurgence mode. In Santa’s Slayground, there are fresh elements added to the game. The hellhound reindeer, zombies, and Santa himself greets you to celebrate Christmas!
Starting a match in this game mode, you’ll see many Christmas trees scattered around the map. These trees work like the Strongholds in the Battle Royale experience. Get near them, and you’ll find many presents as loot chests that you can open. They’ll recharge in three phases, and give you the ultimate rewards with cash, weapons, and killstreaks to start the game with. Once you loot all phases, it also drops a Blacksite key, with a mysterious portal beside it. This portal, however, is shockingly a Red Door easter egg from Black Ops Cold War in Warzone Season 1.
Black Ops Cold War’s Red Door is Once Again in Warzone
Three years ago we had the integration of Black Ops Cold War into Warzone. And in the final seasons of the game, the Red Doors appeared around the map, teleporting you across the map. Now, this currently seems to be the case with Warzone Season 1, which is quite awkward considering the late release of MW3.
It’s no secret that the new Modern Warfare storyline shares the same universe with the Black Ops series. But since we have a year between us and the next Black Ops title, it’s quite unusual to see the developers tease that game way ahead of its launch. For instance, they could’ve used any type of portal in the game, but it’s intentional that they’ve used a Red Door as a Black Ops Cold War easter egg in Warzone Season 1.
Now, this could be how the stories of Black Ops and rebooted Modern Warfare are being more tied in together with the recent story arcs and the Zombies mode relations. In fact, the future story of Black Ops 2 was set in 2025, and the current MW3 timeline takes place in November 2023, which makes things even more confusing considering how we haven’t seen David Mason, Harper, and the rest of the BO2 main characters in the game yet.
We have already seen the Perseus flags in MW3‘s story mode, and Victor Zakhaev’s father was seen in BOCW years ago. So, if the pieces of the puzzle are slotted together, we could see the ultimate union as the Black Ops and the new Modern Warfare universes begin to combine by next year’s Call of Duty title. But does that mean we’re going to witness more story crossovers in the upcoming MW3 and Warzone Seasons? All we can do is wait and see.
Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 is currently available to play on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
