A man in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was selling some of his pickles when he was approached by a woman and her children. Apparently out of nowhere, and with an arguably rude demeanor, she asked him if he supported Elon Musk. Then, she called him or his product “gross.”
The clip was shared online by Dill Daddy Pickles. The account, run by the pickle brand of the same name, often shares its interactions with its customers, often leading to viral moments and lots of sold pickles. The clip attached above wasn’t the exception, as it amassed more than 373,600 views in a little over a day.
The Michigan man, while stashing cash into his money box, saw a mother and her children walking by at the market. He told them, “How you doing?” but the lady decided to respond in what many interpreted as a confrontational manner.
“I have nothing appropriate to say. Just tell me that you’re eco-friendly, not Elon-friendly,” the woman asked, referring to Elon Musk.
Wait, What?
The vendor, confused, asked back, “What do you mean?“
His question was met with a giggle, what sounded like an “Oh, well,” and some additional hand gestures. Then, as she was leaving with her kids, she said, “That’s so gross. So gross.”
Instead of responding to the woman, the Michigan man directed his attention to other customers, asking them how they were doing.
One could argue that the woman is not really a fan of pickles. Hence, the “gross” statement. However, her Elon Musk dig was not entirely random.
Many pointed out that the man selling the pickles owned a Tesla Cybertruck. This is, of course, a vehicle from a brand owned by the former trillionaire. Therefore, her comment stems from a belief that, if the man bought the truck, then he must be supportive of Musk.
Reactions
Still, the interaction left many viewers wondering what Elon had to do with anything. One said, “I didn’t realize pickles were political. Tell me the policy of thine pickles.” Another one commented, “What was that supposed to mean?”
Others expressed feeling tired about politics being injected into everyday interactions, such as the one detailed above. One wrote, “Not a single moment where Elon or Trump is not on all these people’s minds.” Some, however, supported the woman’s message, saying, “We’re allowed to choose who we support based on who they support.”
The man seemed unbothered by the woman, given that he proceeded to upload other, more lighthearted interactions with other customers. Turns out, he wasn’t in a pickle after all.
