Peacock has released the first teaser trailer for Ted, a spin-off TV series based on the movie of the same name. The series stars and is created by Seth MacFarlane, best known for Family Guy, American Dad, and The Orville. The new trailer teases the titular hero, Ted, in the show’s 1993 setting and promotes it as an “event series” prior to its January release.

Everything to Know About the New Ted Series

The original Ted movie hit theaters in 2012 with fairly positive reviews. The movie starred Mark Wahlberg as John Bennett, Seth MacFarlane as Ted, and Mila Kunis as Lori Collins, with cameos by Patrick Stewart, Ryan Reynolds, and more. The sequel received a larger budget with an even more star-studded cast, though its reception was significantly less positive. The upcoming Ted series is the first addition to the franchise since 2015, taking the characters back to their roots.

All seven episodes of Ted will release on January 11, 2024, on Peacock, so fans may be able to binge-watch the entire series in a few hours. The first episode, “Just Say Yes,” has an extra long runtime to get fans reacquainted with the characters. The first three episodes were written by Seth MacFarlane, while the others were written by Paul Corrigan, Brad Walsh, Dana Gould, Jon Pollack, and Julius Sharpe.

Similar to Young Sheldon, Ted takes place in the early 1990s during the main character’s youth. Though the focus is on Ted and Max Burkholder as John, the show also stars Giorgia Whigham as John’s cousin and Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach as his parents. Much of the overarching plot is still unknown, but you can at least get a glimpse of what to expect based on its episode titles:

  • “Just Say Yes”
  • “My Two Dads”
  • “Ejectile Dysfunction”
  • “Subways, Bicycles, and Automobiles”
  • “Desperately Seeking Susan”
  • “Loud Night”
  • “He’s Gotta Have It”

The new Ted trailer takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to the series, criticizing itself as a “rehash of old stuff.” This self-criticizing humor is a beloved part of Seth MacFarlane’s brand and may be enough to get audiences interested. You can watch all seven episodes of Ted on Peacock on January 11, 2024.
