Since leaving Below Deck Mediterranean, Hannah Ferrier has experienced multiple changes in her life and career. Hannah was one of the original cast members of Below Deck Mediterranean when the series premiered in 2016. Hannah continued starring on the show as the chief stewardess for five seasons, during which she became the longest-running cast member.
However, Hannah’s stint on Below Deck Mediterranean ended abruptly in season 5 when co-star bosun Malia White found Hannah’s undocumented medications of valium on board. Hannah didn’t disclose she had the anti-anxiety medication and a vape pen to the producers before boarding the ship for season 5. After the discovery, Chef Sandy had no choice but to fire Hannah from Below Deck Mediterranean.
Afterward, fans of the reality series became outraged due to the harsh decision to fire Hannah, and most defended her. In an interview with E! News, Hannah explained she got many positive messages from fans after leaving the show.
“I think for every nine positive comments, I’d get one negative, or not even. It was very much in my favor. And I think that was good because it’s an important conversation to have.”
She also spoke to Decider about the importance of talking about mental health and medications because, despite explaining her situation, Captain Sandy still fired her from the series.
“I think I’ve just been really disappointed because I feel I’m being painted as some sort of drug addict or what have you, which is just so sad because there are so many people in the world that suffer from mental illness. We shouldn’t be making people feel like a lesser for taking medication for mental illness or making them feel like they can’t do a job, or they can’t do what normal people can do.”
