In the Marvel universe, anything can happen. The studio is preparing to dive further into the multiverse after releasing the first trailer of season 2 of What If…? (seen below). This will be the final project of the year, coming off the heels of The Marvels, which was released on November 10.
Last season, we got scenarios like Ultron getting the Infinity Stones, most superheroes turning into zombies, and Captain Carter becoming the first Avenger. In the season 2 trailer of What If…?, we see a Die Hard-like invasion of Stark Tower and a twist on the Avengers lineup. The season will also feature returning characters like T’Challa, Tony Stark, Scott Lang, and Thanos while giving us characters who did not feature in the first season, like Hela.
What If…? Season 2 Trailer Goes Wild in the Multiverse
Jeffrey Wright continues his narration as the Watcher. Similarly to last season, we will have stars reprising their roles while having new actors voice their animated selves. For people who play their live-action counterparts to return include Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Chris Hemsworth as Thor.
The episodes were unclear until we got the first trailer for season 2 of What If…?, except for a Gamora episode. Gamora wore armor from Thanos in the finale of the first season, but we never saw her episode. Head writer A.C. Bradley confirmed to Polygon that due to COVID-19 production problems, the episode had to be pushed to season 2.
Bradley returns to be the lead writer on the series. Bryan Andrews also returns to direct while also executive producing with Bradley.
What If…? will drop one episode per day from December 22-30 on Disney Plus. This is a new release model, as the Disney Plus shows have normally been one a week. This shakes things up similarly to Echo, which drops all five episodes on January 10.
