We just entered 2023, but the anticipation for Genshin Impact‘s next major update is already sky-high — no thanks to the abundance of leaks regarding the new region, Fontaine. Travelers all around the world are asking about the release date and what’s new coming with the upcoming update. Here we will answer the schedule for when is Fontaine coming to Genshin Impact and everything we know so far about Version 4.0 leaks.

When is Fontaine Coming to Genshin Impact?

miHoYo has not officially set a release date for Genshin Impact‘s Fontaine region, but the community expects it to be launched sometime during the Summer of 2023 along with Version 4.0. Why? Let’s take a peek at some convincing proofs.

First of all, the regional expansion release order has officially announced by miHoYo way back in the Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview: Travail video above. Below is the schedule for each region, its featured Archon, as well as the year when they were released:

Prologue: Mondstadt, Anemo – September 2020
Act I: Liyue, Geo.
Act II: Inazuma, Electro – Version 2.0, July 2021
Act III: Sumeru, Dendro – Version 3.0, August 2022
Act IV: Fontaine, Hydro
Act V: Natlan, Pyro
Act VI: Snezhnaya, Cryo
Act ?: Khaenri’ah, ???

Obviously, with each major update, more regions become explorable. If we consider miHoYo’s plan of a “four-year, four-region” then Fontaine is expected to arrive at some point this year, in 2023. And if we also take notes of the two previous major Version update release dates, Version 4.0 might be coming sometime between the Summer months.

However, keep in mind that some leaks claimed that the Genshin Impact update roadmap has been extended into 5-6 year updates, so there could be changes to the schedule.

Some of the leaked game .lua files mentioned undersea contents including ocean currents, a “shooter” segment, and undersea life such as turtles. And then in a (now-deleted) tweet, @WaffelGI wrote that Fontaine will have a “high-speed boat” based on Version 4.0 beta content, which is probably faster than the Waverider that Travelers can currently use.

There is also going to be a new Glider shaped like an industrial fairy wing, seen above. Fontaine is said going to be a steampunk nation full of steam engines, zeppelins, and a Victorian style, so the design works well with that explanation.

New Characters

Previously, we have mentioned that there are going to be two Archons in Fontaine. One of them is described as a teenager with white hair and blue gradients, and the other is an adult woman in armor with blonde hair and sky-blue tints. While only one of the two newly leaked characters fits that description to a tee, according to an anonymous source, these two characters are going to be the Faction Leaders of Fontaine:

The one with the blue-colored shirt on the left is the Hydro Archon, Focalors:
- Leader of the Faction of Darkness/Desolation/Wasteland.
- Head Soutine.
- Focalors is only one of her names.
- Hydro Vision.
- Uses Claymore.
- Appeared in a data mine back in June 2022.
- Could be one of the first Fontaine characters to be released.
The one on the right with the yellow/brown-colored shirt is:
- Head Yuelyn.
- Geo Vision.
- The name is not yet known.

A leak that’s the original source has been deleted also said that we are going to be getting around 11 new characters in Fontaine: five girl body types, two tall women, one small girl, two tall men, and one boy. One of them could be a new Geo character that is a member of Liyue Qixing, holding the title of Yaoguang.

Lore and Fatui Harbingers Leaks

The famous Chinese leaker hxg aka Gandhi wrote (in now deleted forum posts) some interesting things regarding the Fatui Harbingers.

Arlecchino and Sandrone are going to be the Harbingers for Fontaine. Columbina and Capitano might show up in Natlan; Capitano himself seems to be “strongly” related to the Abyss and will play a big role in the Khaenri’ah Arc. Meanwhile, Snezhnaya is Pantalone and Dottore‘s domain. But Pierro is not going to show up in a region unlike other Harbingers because he’s not on his “own mission.” They also mentioned that Childe might later offer himself as a “sacrifice” for Pulcinella.

Although some other posters mentioned that these leaks might be questionable, so take them with a grain of salt. Especially the Childe dying part, it has been a tradition at this point.

Why The Fontaine and Genshin Impact 4.0 Leaks Happened

According to leaker @merlin_impact, the Fontaine leaks are happening because some people in China managed to grab a hold of and shared a bunch of leaked content to a Genshin Impact private Telegram channel and a forum called Icarus. There was an attempt to do a drip feed of information leaks to the community. However, there seems to be animosity between each leaker group, and they just decided to do things their own way. And then everything snowballed out of control because of the in-fighting between leakers. Pretty funny — and the “Icarus” irony is not lost on me — if you think about it.
