The Crystal Lizard is the objective for the ‘Finding a Crystal Lizard’ ★2 side quest that you can pick up in Sheparden. The catch is that you won’t actually encounter the creature anywhere nearby. To find a Crystal Lizard and complete the Monster Hunter Stories 3 quest, you’ll need to progress further through the main story first.
You can find the Crystal Lizard in Serathis, the fourth major map in the game. It is near the Old Capital Lazlion Catavan fast travel point, on a small platform along the path leading toward Sacrosanctum.
At the point the quest becomes available, Canalta Timberland is still part of the early-game maps. Meanwhile, Crystal Lizards do not appear anywhere in this region, so progressing the main quests until Serathis unlocks is the only way to complete the side quest.
Keep in mind that Serathis is filled with powerful monsters, especially as you approach Sacrosanctum. You’ll also need to defeat a miniboss before gaining access to the latter half of the map. Because of this, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to rush straight to the Crystal Lizard the moment you arrive in the region.
Unlike Large Monsters or other regular encounters, the Crystal Lizard cannot be captured. Instead, all you need to do is approach the creature and interact with it.
When you do, the camera will zoom in on the Crystal Lizard, and your fellow Rangers will comment on how the creature manages to survive in such a harsh environment. This should complete the objective, and after that, simply return to Sheparden and report back to the quest giver.
Completing ‘Finding Crystal Lizard’ rewards you with 3,000 XP, 700 Silver Trade Tickets, and the Yukumo Armor recipe. The Yukumo Armor provides okay Thunder resistance for the early game and only requires the recipe plus eight Gargwa points to craft. The armor also comes with Critical (M) and Evasion Ability (M) skills, making it a decent option for a lightweight offensive set early on.
To fully upgrade it, you’ll need the following materials:

- Armor Sphere x5pts.
- Brute Bone x25pts.
- Gargwa Feather x8pts.
- Blood Orange Bishaten materials x16pts.
- Ajarakan materials x8pts.
