Bethesda is known for implementing companions in its RPG, and Starfield is no different. In fact, everything from past releases is upped up a notch. With that said, you will be able to find 20 companions on your journey through Starfield’s vast galaxy. Some of these correlate to your Constellation group storyline, while some are random NPCs that can contribute to the campaign. Nevertheless, one of these 20 companions is related to a Trait you chose, and finding another one hinges on a critical decision you make during one of the central missions.
How To Get Every Starfield Companion
We will get to the point right away. This is where to find all companions in Starfield:
Vasco
- Recruitment: Vasco is the first companion you can recruit. It is available after completing the One Small Step main story mission.
- Vasco is a modified expeditionary robot that excels in traversing rough terrain and carrying large payloads.
Sarah Morgan
- Recruitment: You will be able to get Sarah Morgan to join your ranks at the beginning of The Old Neighborhood main story mission.
- Sarah Morgan is the leader of Constellation, and she brings her expertise in Astrodynamics, Lasers, Leadership, and Botany to your crew.
Sam Coe
- Recruitment: Sam can be recruited as a companion at the beginning of The Empty Nest main story mission.
- Sam Coe is a skilled pilot with Rifle Certification, Payloads expertise, and Geology knowledge.
Barrett
- Recruitment: Barret becomes available as a companion while you are on the Back to Vectera main story mission.
- Barrett is a proficient starship engineer, skilled in Particle Beam Weapon Systems, Robotics, and Gastronomy.

In addition to these 20 companions, you will be able to recruit unnamed NPCs looking for work and assign them as your crew members. As you upgrade your ship, you can get up to eight crew members.
