In the Isle of Arrival, you will find many essential resources that will be very helpful to establish a base to protect you. Creating tools, such as the Primitive Axe, Spear, or Hammer, is also a fundamental part of your journey to ensure survival along the Heroe’s path. Strangely enough, you will find that you will not have the Pickaxe recipe by default among all your tools and resources in Dawn of Defiance. You must even explore the caves to collect Ambrosia, but you will notice you can’t mine the crystals. To get more of this valuable purple magic dust, you must complete a quest to find the Pickaxe.
Dawn of Defiance: How to Get the Pickaxe Recipe
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use the recipe or create a Pickaxe until you complete all Places of Power and open the Hecate’s Temple. That’s right — you must unlock several workstations and collect many materials before you can mine the rocks in the caves. However, once you have placed the giant rock weapons in each statue and brought your tribute to Hecate, in her Temple, there will be another golden chest with the Simple Pickaxe recipe. To create this tool in the Crafting Station, you will need the following:
- x5 Softwood
- x5 Rock
- x3 Hide Strips
All these materials are very easy to get; the one that might cost you the most is the Hide Strips. You can create Hide Strips using Pelt at the Hunter’s Bench or get them by defeating the soldiers protecting the Places of Power on the island. You will no longer have to wait for the night to collect Ambrosia or fight with the Lost; just go to the Dawn of Defiance caves to extract the purple crystals with your Pickaxe. Try to always have a good amount of this material, as it is handy for the Braziers of Apollo.
