This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Let’s face it: one of the most iconic Pokemon in the series is Lucario; yet to get it in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, trainers need to find Riolu first. This little Pokemon that packs a punch takes a while to appear, but hunting it down is worth it if you want a good fighting pocket creature on your team. The silver lining of catching this fourth-generation Pokemon is that you don’t need to have a high-level team. You just need to put on your running shoes and explore to find it.

To find Riolu in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you only need to travel a bit south from Mesagoza, which you can do after starting your Treasure Hunt. Here are the locations for the base game and the Teal Mask DLC where you can find Riolu:

  • Base Game:
    • South Province (Area Four)
    • South Province (Area Six)
    • South of Cortondo
  • Teal Mask DLC:
    • North of Wistful Fields
    • Fellhorn Gorge
    • East of Mossui Town (Reveler’s Road)

To be more exact, for Riolu’s location in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you can find this creature near the bridge that leads to Cortondo. It usually isn’t hard to spot it, and it isn’t a rare spawn like other inhabitants of Paldea and beyond. Besides, Riolu shows up as a level 10 Pokemon, so you don’t have to worry about bringing a powerful team.

Last but not least, in the case of Kitakami, the Riolu’s level will vary depending on whether you finished the base game’s story or not. If you did, it’ll show up as a level 60 creature, meaning you need to have your team at that level or above, preferably. Thankfully, getting this potential party member is easy, and as long as you bring anyone with the False Swipe move, you won’t have any major issues when trying to capture this Fighting-type Pokemon. Also, if you want to know how to evolve Riolu, we have a guide to help you.
