No, we’re not going to talk about controller or joystick compatibility with the game. Instead, there is an important item named Controller in Once Human. This rare item will be very important in the endgame as you’ll be farming Rift raid bosses in a bid to get the best loot. Unconsciously collecting this item in the early game is easy, but you’ll run out of it fast if you don’t know where to farm it.
Once Human: How Can You Get Controller Item? Answered
Controller is pretty rare but it can be obtained in seven different ways in the game:
- Clear out Public Crisis Events, quests that randomly appear on the map. Indicated by a red eye icon.
- Complete Journey subquests to get Controller in Once Human. In total, you can collect 39 Controllers from 26 Journeys.
- Complete Commissions subquests. You can take 5 Commissions per week from Safe Zones or by interacting with V.
- Open Loot Crates, the unique black-and-blue abstract-shaped box hidden all over the game map.
- Purchased from Severin VII-S20421 for 2 Stellar Planulla. The currency is obtained from Morphic Hunts and sidequests.
- Purchased from Nisa for 100 Sproutlet. The currency is obtained from Cargo Scramble and Highway Pursuit.
- Purchased from Warband Shop for 150 Warband Points. The currency is obtained by donating to your Warband.
Where Can You Use the Controller? Explained
The Controller item in Once Human is used after you have defeated any Rift Entity boss in the Rift Space raid mission. After the boss is felled and you interact with the loot, you should see two options:
- Control/Max Gain.
- Eliminate/Min Gain.
If you select the Control option, you will consume a Controller from your inventory– but the raid loot yields better rewards. As you can expect, picking the Eliminate options is the opposite, it saves you one Controller but the reward is minuscule.
Let’s use the Normal Ravenous Hunter Rift raid as an example. Below is the list of rewards we obtained when we tried both using and not using a Controller:

As seen above, utilizing a Controller after finishing a Rift Space raid is a no-brainer way to gain much better loot in Once Human. Especially if you’re running Hard or Pro difficulty raid that takes much more effort and resources.
