King Groot is the label that fans use to describe this popular character in Guardians of The Galaxy 3. However, this evolution of Groot has a unique background, and we are about to dive into its details here in this post. Here’s everything you need to know about King Groot in Guardians 3.

Spoiler Alert: The following content spoils the story of the Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3.

Who is King Groot?

Many fans have heard this name from a game called “Marvel Contest of The Champions.” This is a fighting game like Tekken and Street Fighter, where you can pick Marvel heroes to fight. However, its story is not canon to the comics or the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Aside from that, there are no mentions of King Groot in any Marvel comic book stories so far.

However, from what we have seen in the post-credit scene of Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3 movie, Groot seems to look like a king. Therefore many fans have chosen a name for this new Groot’s looks, and so far, it’s been called King Groot.

Why Is He Called King Groot in Guardians 3?

Take a look at the photo above, taken from the Guardians of The Galaxy 3 movie. This is the first post-credit scene, where a new team of Guardians is getting ready to fight an army of enemies on an unknown planet. Groot is resting in this scene, but after Rocket calls him to get ready, he looks much more powerful than the teen Groot we saw during the Guardians of The Galaxy: Holiday Specials and the Guardians 3 movie.

People call this King Groot in Guardians 3 for the crown shape of Groot’s head. Our popular walking talking tree does look stronger than ever in this scene. Still, suppose you remember this character from the first Guardians of The Galaxy movie. In that case, you probably know they look the same!

The crown shape of presumed King Groot in Guardians 3‘s post-credit scene is somehow the same as the one in the 2014 Guardians of The Galaxy 1. Their age is definitely not the same here, but it’s obvious that this is the golden age of Groot reaching his peak of power.

Some other fans also call this King Groot in Guardians 3 variant the “Alpha Groot.” However, no such character as Alpha Groot or King Groot exists in Marvel’s comics or the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s just Groot! You should also remember that the Groot in the MCU we see in Guardians 3 is different from the grown Groot in the Guardians 1 movie. That Groot died sacrificing his life and gave birth to a new baby version, now grown in Guardians 3‘s narrative.
