Following the train crash at the end of Chapter 2, you’ll awaken within the dilapidated ruins of the Playcare orphanage. As you make your way through the nightmarish facility, you’ll soon hear the voice of a mysterious young boy who is trying to help you via a telephone. Initially, his motive is unclear, though he does claim, “I don’t want you to die — so I’m gonna help you.” So, for those wondering who Ollie in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 is, here’s what we know so far.

***Major Story Spoilers Follow!***

Who Is Ollie in Poppy Playtime?

During Chapter 3: Deep Sleep, we never get to see the actual face of Ollie, which has led to many theories about the enigmatic character. Before we dive into some of the these theories, however, let’s just go over what we know about Ollie.

Most importantly, even though we were skeptical of his assistance at first, it’s fair to say that Ollie is — on the face of it, anyways — a benevolent character who is eager to help. His enthusiasm is not only reflected in his young, plucky voice work — portrayed by voice actor, Reid Osiecki — but in his actions towards the player as well. For instance, when we first meet Ollie, he reveals the location of a battery, which is used to bypass a locked door.

Interestingly, at first, the subtitles in the game denote this character as “???”, though that does change as soon as Ollie formally introduces himself.

Is Ollie in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 an Evil Character?

Even though Ollie helps the player on numerous occasions, it’s safe to say that there’s still a good chance that Ollie could turn out to be an evil character. In fact, if we were to place a bet, we’d probably put money on him turning out to be a villain in a mind-bending twist in the next chapter.

As mentioned up top, here are some fan theories and educated guesses pertaining to who Ollie might be:

  • Ollie could actually be the Prototype posing as an innocent child. As a matter of fact, there’s some evidence that supports this theory. See, during the Prototype interview tapes, there’s a moment where we hear the Prototype mimicking lots of other voices. One of these voices sounds eerily similar to Ollie. *Shivers*
  • One outlandish theory from a fan over on Reddit has claimed that Ollie may in fact be the phone itself. Their evidence points to the eyes and smile on the phone design to support this.
  • Ollie could potentially be one of the souls of the eight Smiling Critters in the opening video.
  • Another possible theory is that Ollie could be CatNap in disguise. Evidence that supports this is the fact that once you’ve defeated CatNap in its boss encounter, you never hear Ollie’s voice again.

And with that, we come to the conclusion of our explainer on who Ollie in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 is. For more tips, tricks, and guides, keep it locked at The Nerd Stash.
