Pavitr Prabhakar, A.K.A the Spider-Man India, is a variant of the famous Marvel superhero, Spider-Man. In an alternate timeline, a teenager from India becomes the Spider-Man. But this time, there’s no radioactive spider to give him the spider powers, and he fights demons instead of doctors! Or maybe he gets to fight some doctors too. Let’s dive into details to see who is Spider-Man India who has recently appeared in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse!
Who Is Spider-Man India? Answered
Spider-Man India is a superhero living on Earth-50101. This variation of Spider-Man is not a Peter Parker and a radioactive spider does not bite him. First appearing in the Spider-Man: India issue #1, Pavitr Prabhakar is a teenager living with his Aunt Maya and Uncle Bhim. He gets half a scholarship to study in one of the finest schools in Mumbai, India. Thus they move into the big city to live a different life.
The Spider-Man: India comic series only came with four issues. Covering the backstory of the Pavitr Prabhakar before entering the Spider-Verse comic series story. Paviter gets his Spidey powers from an ancient yogi. And he is tasked to save his universe and fight a demon with the gift he has been granted. However, his Uncle Bhim dies the same way that Uncle Ben died in the classic Peter Parker story. This made Pavitr swear to use his powers only to bring justice and fight crime.
What Are Indian Spider-Man Powers?
In the comics, Spider-Man India has all the powers that Peter Parker’s Spider-Man has. He can stick to surfaces, shoot webs from web-shooters, and he also has Spider-Sense. However, the Indian Spider-Man variant differs in Across The Spider-Verse, both in looks and using some gadgets.
Paviter Prabhakar in Across The Spider-Verse
Voiced by Deadpool’s Karan Soni, Paviter is from Earth-50101 in Across The Spider-Verse, just like he is in the comics. It’s not detailed whom he lives with in the movie, but still, he seems to be a simple boy and not from a wealthy family. Pavitr is in love with a girl named Gayatri, the same way Peter loves Mary Jane (or Gwen Stacy).
Pavitr Prabhakar’s life is similar to Peter Parker’s, yet he lives in Manhattan instead of living in New York. But there’s one thing that separates Spider-Man India from Peter Parker in terms of power, and that’s his bangle! No, not the same bangle as Ms. Marvel has in the MCU.
Pavitr uses his bangle as a weapon to utilize his webs even more. He can hit enemies with this metal gadget and even catch them. It seems like the bangle can even change size, as Pavitr gets The Spot caught by his legs, using only his bangle.
Spoiler Alert! The following post will include heavy spoilers for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse.
Spider-Man India’s Future is Beyond The Spider-Verse
While trying to save Gayatri’s father, who is a police Captain, Miles Morales helps Pavitr and breaks the Canon. It was part of Pavitr’s story to see the Captain’s death, and Miles does not let this happen, which creates a hole in Earth-50101’s universe. However, Pavitr is thankful for Miles’ help and is willing to help him later when he’s trying to save his father from The Spot.
In the last scenes of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, we get to see that Gwen has gathered some Spider friends to help Miles Morales. Miles is trapped in Earth-42 instead of his home universe, and Gwen, with Peter B. Parker, Spider-Punk, Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, Spider-Ham, Spider-Byte, and Spider-Man India, are going to save him.
