Whoopi Goldberg reacted to the results of the 2024 Presidential Election during Wednesday’s episode of The View. At the beginning of the episode, Whoopi addressed the in-studio audience and viewers at home, asking, “So, what happened last night?” It garnered a few chuckles from folks in the audience. They proceeded to play a video of President-elect Donald Trump’s victory speech. As they cut back to the studio, Whoopi just looked into the camera with her head leaned against her hand. Addressing the other women at the table, she asked, “So, how you feelin’?”
The View Hosts React to the Election Results
Joy Behar was the first to speak, stating, “We live in a democracy. People spoke. This is what people wanted. I vehemently disagree with the decision that Americans made, but I feel very very hopeful that we have a democratic system in this country. We should value it. We should love it.” She said that Americans should protest if the situation arises where protests are necessary, “which I’m sure it will.”
Sara Haines piggybacked on what Joy had to say, pointing out that no one should say that the system is broken simply because their candidate didn’t win. Alyssa Farah Griffin shared the same sentiments. While she expressed that she was disappointed, she stated that it was important to consider the feelings of our neighbors and other Americans.
Sunny Hostin offered up her opinion. “I am profoundly disturbed,” she said. The View star went on to share her concerns about the working class, her daughter, and individuals who benefit from Medicare. Ana Navarro was up next. She said that she was also “very disappointed.” Navarro went on to reveal that she was at the Kamala Harris headquarters in Washington on Election Day.
Whoopi Goldberg Reacts, Refuses to Say Trump’s Name
However, everyone was waiting to see how Whoopi Goldberg reacted to the news about the election. She was the last person at the table to speak. The View moderator refused to say Trump’s name. She also mentioned that there were people she knew who died fighting for the right to vote.
“Think about this,” she said. “She [Kamala Harris] did this in two months… She was everywhere, she talked to everybody. People didn’t come out. I don’t know why, and it doesn’t even matter.” Defeated, she continued, stating that everyone simply has to go on about their daily lives now.
The comments on the YouTube video were ruthless. Many people stated that some of the things the women said during their monologues about the election were wrong. Specifically, several pointed out, “He won the popular vote. The COUNTRY has spoken.”
A few people pointed out that Kamala Harris actually had longer than the two months Whoopi Goldberg mentioned she had. Joe Biden officially dropped out of the race in July, leaving her a portion of that month, August, September, and October for her campaign.
Others chimed in, saying that this was the first and only time they’ve tuned into The View to see how Whoopi Goldberg reacts along with the other panel members. “The only time in history i will turn this on,” one person wrote.
Viewers also pointed out that Sunny Hostin said Americans’ votes had nothing to do with policy, but one viewer commented, “it has EVERYTHING to do with policy. They still don’t get.”
